Not bad Aggie. A three day [almost] birthday celebration because of the different time zones.

My DH plays bowls on Saturday afternoons. Today he won a prize which he brought home for me:

It's a Hanoptik one. Never heard of it. But one shouldn't look gift horses and so on...

Now will I be able to fit an eyepiece to it to fit it to the camera?

Ooops! Messed up keyboard isn't fun.

Thanks Macdoc. The eyepiece slips off easily, so now I just need to find the compatible hardware. I'll be off to the shops next week.

This came about discussing imgfit messing with shots and thought it might be worth a chat here..

it bugs me to no end to see the the images on 3 or 4 different forums all looking different due to how the software on each handles the uploads.
I probably prefer Birdforum for displaying.

http://www.birdforum.net/gallery/showph ... ser/110539

you can compare here and there without and with imgfit ( over are ratz )

http://rationalia.com/forum/viewtopic.p ... 7#p1555267

the motorcycle forums are all over the place ( advrider is really strange)

Then RatSkep ( here I is not too bad.
Image

but then we have

Online storage variations, Picasa bugs me for different reasons than Photobucket and neither allows full resolution and with 4k coming and even with 2k now that's a problem.

The only time I can really judge is on the Retina or the big Dell U2713H and of course even those are different but in most cases I'm just using a screen shot for online uploading. :banghead:

I wish I knew the best approach to maintaining quality while dropping down to say 800x600 ish pixels for the various forums

I wonder if leaving shots 1600x1200 and then letting the forum software scale down would do better.
Most bird shots seem to crop near that but I'm uncertain about using a screen shot to jpeg versus scaling a copy of the original ( I shoot in JPEG ) down.

I'd love some insight into that aspect.

It's all okay on a lappie of a smallish desktop screen but when you try and put some of the online storage into a full screen slideshow on the 27" 2560x1440 on the Cinema or Dell 27s the flaws show both camera and how the post processing is handled.

Then cropping inevitably adds scaling issues....

That's the headache with equipment is what standard/quality do you say " that's enough" for my purposes especially as the tech moves forward.

Insights welcome.

I have no clue as to how to maintain consistent quality across software and think it's futile to try. You not only have to deal with software interpretations but also the color variations among displays (both in type display and user preferences).

My final output is print, so my concern is maintaining color consistency with my display and the printed image.

I can't possibly print all my photos, not even the ones I like. So I display them as screen savers on the television screen when we're not watching. I have some prints mounted on the walls (they need changing) but otherwise, Flickr seems to offer the best quality as far as I can see, but my eyesight is not the best so don't take my word for it.

On the t-connector for my scope, I've been around all the shops in the local area, some of the people in the shops didn't even know what I was looking for. So I'm going to try in Cape Town when I'm there (almost next week) and if I can't get it, I'll have to shop around online.

@Macdoc about Picasa.

Apparently you're supposed to be able to export to Picasa from iPhoto, bypassing the Picasa uploader, but the plugin doesn't exist anymore, that's another reason I use Flickr, it's just a pain to use another piece of software to upload pictures.

Also I want to buy Aperture, is it worth the money?

Aperture is well worth the money, though it could do with an update sometime soon.

Thanks. I have an old copy of Photoshop but I'm not into complicated editing anymore, my hands shake too much. I need editing that doesn't require fine editing.

I've been going through some decision making of late. I had until three days ago a Canon SH280 which on a full charge took no more than 120 photos, no panorama option, and very ordinary nightime shots and vids.
Which made my decision to offload it a lot easier.
Image

And bought this...........Image

It has the same processor used in many Olympus SLRS cameras. So far I love it. It even came with a Toshiba Flash Air memory card. But I don't mind connecting a cable to the pc. Another thing with the Canon is that to charge the damn battery it must be removed from the camera and placed in a battery charger while the Olympus is charged in the normal way.
Yes I know, the money I've spent I could have bought an SLR, or one of those compact two thirds camera.

There are rumours that Fujifilm might be developing a new mirror-less rangefinder-style camera, based around a Sony 50mp medium format CMOS sensor. I might have to sell one or two of my sons into slavery.

I love separate chargers because I can use the camera while the battery is charging. Of course you need a spare battery for that.
