Windows installed in like 3 minutes. I remember a time when you had to set aside a day to set up a new computer. Still. Work is calling and I can't give the baby a proper testride yet.

So what OS did you decide on?

I'd guess at Windows 8 as that installs very quickly. It's probably a little more than three minutes, but ten to fifteen wouldn't be out of the question on a fast machine.

Speaking from experience, gaming and notebook doesn't go well in the same sentence. Notebooks get very warm, even warmer with powerful graphics cards and intense gaming. Several models get so hot they just shut down in summertime.

Since I do not have experience myself, yet, let my quote:

---
To that end, I decided to run 3DMark’s Fire Strike benchmark and Heaven 4.0 simultaneously. Using their maximum settings. For 12 hours straight. At the two hour mark, all surfaces of the G750 remained cool to the touch, with the CPU at a frosty (at least for a CPU) internal temperature of 49 degrees Celsius, and the NVIDIA GTX 770M never breaching 80 degrees Celsius. When 12 hours had ticked by, CoreTemp measured the CPU temperature at 52 degrees Celsius, with 54 Celsius being its highest recorded temperature. More astonishing was that the palm rest, keyboard area, and both sides of the machine (near your right or left mouse hand) were still cool to the touch, with the only warm surface being the rear exhausts. Even then, I’d hesitate to use the word “hot.”

Seen vid on tube where temperatures were measured across different tasks and places but could not find it. I guess its used to be or holds for laptops not designed well. Latest processors and graphics card are much more efficient than just few years ago. Then again, depending on room temperature any traditionally cooled machine can shut down. Bloody physics!

Well, the setting shit up with accounts and so on took a bit longer. The actual installation was done in minutes. And yes, I decided to give 8.1 a chance to convince me.

As for temperature, the Clevo barebones are generally pretty good in that regard. That, and as tuco said, the new CPU and GPU architectures make them damned energy efficient.

I have been doing MMO games on a lap top for the last year.

No problems. It does get warm but not to say hot. I run the game at max in every thing.

CPU is an i7. The Nvidia card is a GeForce GT 540M. While not being the latest is still running well.
