SPMaximus wrote:mmo's need to stop attempting to copy WoW's and Eve's success at monthly subscription rates and move on to a f2p item store system, f2p brings a large influx of players, and the more players you get = the more shit they will buy, and the mmo makes money

sooo many mmo's are failing when they try the way of the monthly subscription, how many servers has warhammer lost since launch? :smug:

another problem would be that most mmo's released these days are being released too quickly and dont have nearly enough content to justify the monthly subscription

pirates of the burning sea launched with 12 north american and european servers, the first months into it they were packed with players and the game felt alive, now its down to 1 NA and 1 EU server, the EU server is quite dead and the NA isnt much better off, the free to play model they will adopt by the end of the year should bring a steady influx of players, you dont tend to be very bothered with flaws in game when you arent shoveling out 15/month to play it anymore

Why isn't anyone looking forward to Diablo 3?

My personal choices:

Mass Effect 3 :jump:
Star Wars Force Unleashed 2
Fallout New Vegas (graphics look shitty, I'm not happy) :coffee:
Whatever's next in line for the Elder Scrolls series

I am not convinced by Fallout New Vegas either. It looks just like Fallout 3 with new content. Paying a full game price for it seems a bit much. Similarly Diablo 3 looks very like diablo 2 with updated graphics.

Diablo 3 excited me two years ago, now I'm pretty meh about it. Damn Blizzard always takes FOREVER to release something.

Fallout NV will probably be good, but I'll pick it up next year when the price comes down.

Interestingly enough the alleged load of crap, more or less, supports what you asserted SPMaximus :) However do feel free to comment the articles, there is lot to be learned from virtual (simulations) yet.

maybe i was a bit hasty when i said it was all crap, but the last link especially, that guy makes it sound like the chinese mmo market is filled with sexism, exploitation, rich players who can buy lots of advantages over poor players etc, not a very nice sounding system

This comment summed it up pretty well
Who is Zhan Ye, president of GameVision. I never heard of him or his company. I'm a Chinese game designer, I feel sad about what he said . He didn't see the essence of the game market of China, but just saw the superficies。It's not the gamers' problems, but the society's.Ye didn't see the need of gamers between China and West. Social environment and cluture affect the gamers' habit in games.I think Monetization for China's market is completely different from West's. The monetization of west is "to make game more funny!", but in China, is to make game more "show off". Almost all the Chinese gamers are eager for four kinds of things,"prurience","show off","vent" and "money". If u come to China and live here(not Beijing, Shanghai or such kind of big city) for a long time, u will find out.

PS:my English is poor, I hope u can understand what I mean^^

the facebook being a wow killer article was pretty funny, albeit slightly delusional, i dont use facebook and dont like wow but last i checked wow is still thriving, i wouldnt compare the likes of farmville to a mmo

gues you could argue about the games on facebook being f2p... but i dont like facebook so im gonna say its all crap because im an asshole

First of all, the one who wrote about FB and WoW probably aspires to be a journalist. That is what journalists do, make up silly headlines to catch attention.

Secondly, what is the essence of the article? From where I sit, it is the notion that WoW does not lead MMO market because it has game mechanics or features superior to anyone else, but mainly because "everyone's on it", in other words the so called "social factor" is what to watch for. Now we could ask something like: Why is everyone on it?

:this: From what I've seen it comes across as just a separate expansion to Fallout 3. The same with Call of Duty: Black Ops. Multiplayer looks fantastic, but its like £7 more than any other new release for no reason at all. I'll wait till January-March to see if they are worth it I think.

I'm playing Arcania Gothic 4, at the moment. It's basically a slightly improved Risen. Enjoyable. HUGE island, game-world. Not much to do, though. The mechanics are akin to Risen. You dodge-roll, have combos, block, mine some iron, obsidian...etc. then later you'll probably be able to forge swords, you collect herbs, and vials, scrolls, spells, make potions, find teleport locations, trade, get recipes...etc. Like Risen.

The demo for Star Wars The Force Unleashed 2 has been released, anyone who is looking forward to that game but haven't played the demo yet give it a go. Same controls as the first but a couple of new ones for new abilities, the Jedi Mind Trick is good (and funny I think) and the Force Fury is pretty good.
Disagree with an opinion just say so but don't be a dick about it.

I hate the long waits too. However, I am still very excited for D3, but don't foresee my having an appropriate rig for playing it any time in the near future.

EDIT: Medal Of Honour
Just listened to this news story on Radio1(Really is non-news):
http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/11546674

Just makes me think people have nothing else to moan and whinge about. Apparently changing the name from Taliban to Opposition Forces fixes the issue some people had.

I really don't expect anything better than FO3 graphics wise, though it is a little brighter, less gloomy than FO3. And for the amount of shooting that goes on, the Gamebryo engine absolutely SUCKS. It's 10 years out of date. But I'm really anxious to see what the Black Isle refugees do with it. I hiope it's at least on par with FO3 for content. I was really impressed with the level of detail. Every skeleton tells a story.

In my recent replay with all the DLC I noticed a nod to the Black Isle guys. I don't remember where but there is mention on a terminal somewhere of a company named Isla Negra.

Tried the demo, got similar feeling. Are smithing and alchemy worth anything? By worth anything I mean useful or perhaps even essential. How about the story, dialogs, (moral) choices? How about difficulty, a walk in a park or a struggle for survival?

Kid you not, I spent around 200 hours in FO3 without ever finishing the game, constantly restarting, perhaps hoping for the "perfect" game, though enjoying it, especially exploration, throughly. Visuals have, in my opinion, little impact on immersion.

On Normal difficulty it's pretty easy, haven't done any weapon crafting or alchemy yet. You don't use smith shops and alchemy shops to brew or make things, including food, you "craft" them on spot wherever you are if you have the ingredients. No choices really, you either help out someone either a good person or a bad, not exactly "grey" at all, dialogs are boring, the voice-acting is...ok.
