I'm going to watch a couple of vids on this if I can find them. I don't even know what the stats mean right now. I'm likely ridiculously underpowered.

I couldn't find anywhere that actually gives a clear explanation of the stats, but I think I've worked it out:-

Att (found on weapons) - affects the damage you inflict using the "attack" command in battle and the damage you do with all out attacks and nothing else.
Def (found on protectors) - affects the damage you receive when enemies use the "attack" command in battle on you and nothing else.
Acc (found on weapons) - affects the chance you hit when using the "attack" command in battle.
Eva (found on protectors) - affects the chance you evade an enemy using the "attack" command in battle.

Str - affects the damage done by any physical ability (i.e. melee or gun) you use in battle from the persona (triangle) menu.
Mag - affects the damage done by any magical ability (i.e. fire/ice/lightning/wind/psi/nuclear/bless/curse/almighty) you use in battle from the persona (triangle) menu.
End - affects the damage you receive in battle when enemies use any persona skill on you (either physical or magical - basically any damage that isn't an "attack").
Agi - Affects your hit chance and your evasion chance when using persona skills or having them used on you, and determines the order you act in battle. Order in battle seems to be slightly randomised across teams, except when you get an ambush in the first round your characters all go before any enemy acts and when you get surrounded the enemy all act in the first round before any of your characters act.
Luck - Affects your crit chance, affects how much money enemies drop when defeated, affects how much money enemies drop when negotiated with, affects how much money enemies drop when confused. Seems to affect stuff in the overworld too - chance of winning at the crane game, chance of winning the lottery, possibly chance of critical crafting (where you get 2 instead of 1) etc.

Persona stats (Str, mag, end, agi, luck) are only taken from the currently active persona, so it seems a good habit to have your highest luck persona not just equipped but active between palaces and if you plan on money farming (e.g. with confusion or rank 2 sun negotiation) then having a persona with high luck (you can easily make one with the gallows by only accepting the persona fusion when the luck stat is highlighted and backing out the menu and retrying when it isn't) and pulinpa/confuse boost is a really good idea.

It's not really possible to long term damage yourself by miscrafting personas though, since given enough money you can remake anything and any skill combination (barring like half a dozen that are unique to a persona or from the network fusion gimick) through the velvet room. You can also then remanipulate the stats at level up using the "back out and retry if desired stat combination isn't yellow" trick.

Play it as well so you don't notice any more? :ask:

And you're just realising that NOW?

I do like a good spreadsheet. Spreadsheets, sheets, three sheets to the wind. All good.

PS: Clearly your daughter is very well brought up and a wise person if she realises the value of a good spreadsheet.

I wouldn't even know where to begin making a spreadsheet. A notebook, which looks chaotic to everyone else, but makes perfect sense to me, is the most you'll get.

PS: Just because I go on about this stuff don't think I'm saying it's the only way to play, or even the best way to play, I just like playing with mechanics and learning the ins and outs of a game. It's totally not required though, I'm sure you can just muddle through without any problems, the game doesn't seem to have any sort of HAHA GOT YOU moments where you can't get past a boss if you don't get everything "just so".

So if this shit isn't your cup of tea or sounds like hassle, just ignore me.

If this game gets everyone to keep pads of graph paper around like I do, then it has done a good job.

It's not tremendously advanced, I'm sure you could do it (if you loved spreadsheets enough):

Triangle's not only good for holding and skipping dialogue, it's also better than X for tapping dialogue through fast as it doesn't have a brief pause. Handy if you read text faster than the game shows it.

I've been enjoying Stellaris (Utopia) no end.

This was the species/government I created for my first attempt -

[Reveal] Spoiler:

- but I soon came to grief, mostly due to my not knowing what I was doing and generally making a hash of things. So I started again with a new custom species, a kind of creepy hive mind that wants to dominate the galaxy. I'm doing a lot better this time.

The empire coloured in green, Confederacy of Gratiil, was concerning for a while. Every time I looked at the diplomacy screen, I could see that they had superior fleet power, and they clearly didn't want a repugnant hive mind for a neighbour. I also noticed that, at one point, they were ahead of me in terms of planets colonized. Things came to a head when they made the error of closing their borders and outright declaring their rivalry. After upgrading my fleets a bit, I declared war, thrashed them, and made them my (or "our", given that we're a hive mind) vassals. So instead of being a constant pain in the neck, they can provide a buffer against all the other empires up there. Plus, now the vassal's forces will have to fight for their new master in any future wars to come.

Here are the vassals, some (occasionally snarky) sentient fungi:

[Reveal] Spoiler:

It looks like I'm ahead in terms of military might, population, number of planets, and the reach of my empire's borders. Since still I'm a relative noob, I don't know if there's a way to tell whether I'm behind or ahead in scientific research, though (anyone?). [Edit: I must be going blind, it's right there on the same screen  ]

Yes, Paradox has done it again - this has to be one of the best grand strategy games I've played!

Did a side-quest in Nier: Automata, where I had to find and escort a machine child back to its mother.

And when 2B asked 9S what should they do with the stubborn little guy, 9S didn't know, saying: "I've never met a snot-nosed machine, before?" Really!? Have you looked in a mirror, lately!? You annoying little brat! Seriously, I wanna shred this punk after every whiny sentence he has.

And he keeps dismissing the idea of machines having real emotions. "It's just a machine! I can't have real emotions." Really!? The fact that HE is a fucking machine seems to escape him. :nono:

It's mad how much there is to learn in this game. I really have to applaud the creative team.

Arguably certain things have been obscured from the player that should not be such as: getting knowledge rank 3 before the first exams makes Kawakami, Sojiro, Ann and Ryuji and maybe a couple of others rank up faster in the following period after the results are published, but you'd never ever know it unless you played twice and tried it both ways or that using a fortune reading (and cinema treasures book where applicable) increases even ♪♪♪ contributions to stat scores. In fact even though ♪ will change to ♪♪ you get far more when applying the bonuses to ♪♪♪ events.
