It's become more of a handheld franchise. Long live the DS!

My kids have a 3ds, but I don't get to play with it much.
I do have a hacked psp, where I used to play the gba version of HM, but don't know where I've put it since December.

The DS is cheap as dirt, I think the 3DS is getting there if it isn't already. It's a great little RPG machine if you're into that sort of thing: Etrian Odyssey series, a bunch of Shin Megami Tensei titles, Dark Spire, 3 or 4 Dragon Quest games, and of course a slew of farming titles.

I did start playing Final Fantasy Tactics A2 on my Note 5 with a DS emulator.
With the spen it's pretty close to the real thing.
Might go looking around for some roms now.

Yes. Just do it.
That game has me in a trance when I start it. What do you mean I have 15 hours logged, Steam? That can't be right. I haven't even harvested the pumpkins yet!

I've got a few DS roms that I play with OpenEmu. If you like side-scrolling beat-em-ups/hack n' slash, I highly recommend getting the Code Of Princess rom. The visuals are incredibly detailed, so almost impossible to play on a tiny screen.

I'm playing Wolfenstein: The New Order which has voice commands on PS4 and it had trouble understanding the command 'handgun' to draw the pistol ('pistol' would've made more sense) until I had the bright idea of saying it in my best American accent. :awesome:

Since we dont have thread, or rather we do but nobody cares, I will drop it here as usual.

Do we really need game testers?

Obvious Test Problems: Tests in which the relationship between cause and effect is obvious to all

Complicated Test Problems: Tests in which the relationship between cause and effect requires analysis or some other form of investigation and/or the application of expert knowledge

Complex Test Problems: Tests in which the relationship between cause and effect can only be perceived in retrospect, but not in advance

So a game producer should have no problems solving an obvious test problem, and a game developer should have no problems solving a complicated test problem, but it is my belief that a game tester is better suited for solving complex test problems due to their specific core competence.

http://www.gamasutra.com/blogs/JohanHob ... esters.php

---

The quote is just a bite as the article provides context, however, let me note two things.

1. I am not sure its such a good idea to ask tester if testers are needed ;) but more importantly,

2. No team of testers developer can realistically employ, can measure up against peer-review or many users with or without pre-defined competencies. As I like to say, cant fool players as they will sooner or later find strengths and weaknesses of a system, which is the point of testing.

In this sense, I do not think testers are needed, what is needed is peer-reviewed or alphas/betas/early access with appropriate feedback control/mechanism and I suspect the only problem with this is lets say business/marketing model/approach.

No. It's a ton times better than FIFA. Instead of trying to control a team you're a player on a team for a start. This means the game takes real skillz and not just knowing the points on the pitch you can score goals from. This makes scoring goals a lot more satisfying and also makes you failures more visceral as you can actually feel bad for hitting a shot wide or what have you.

Wholly recommended.
