Had a quick play on the Witcher 3 PS4. Have to say I was very impressed on all counts, feels like a natural continuation of the series with some improvements. The console handles the game better than I had expected sets a pretty good benchmark for my rig when it comes, don't want to play too much as I will have to repeat it all.

Me and a friend tried Planetary Annihilation, since it was on sale last week.
Like most reviews said: an unfinished, at best alpha product, with obstructed view due to sphere (world globes) maps combined with dodgy camera controls.
Add to that a very slim variety of units, one-unit-per-ship transports and gameplay based excessively on APM and it's definitely not the game for me.

On another note; they're really selling TW3 for 59,99 euros, now that's been released.

I don't like the Witcher 3. I tried, I really did, but it is just not my kind of rpg gameplay. The combat is just awful. On the PS4 and the PC. Then again the combat in the entire series is just awful, but I kind of had my hopes that they would actually have improved it. Nope.

That and I don't feel invested in the story. The first one had a story I could like, but the 2nd and now the 3rd one just don't seem engaging to me. I don't like playing as Geralt and that limitation really annoys the crap out of me.

Personally 3/5 rating. It is an average game, with nothing spectacular to hook me to keep playing.

Considering who the developers are, not a huge company, it is better than the Sim City series and more detailed.

Also, unlike most Sim games, with maybe the exception of Societies, you can actually manage to have a positive balance. I could even work off being from -7000~ credit to being over 1000+ income without stepping in the loan-trap.

But, it gets kinda boring. I mean, you can say that about any game, then. I build a small little town and...then, what? :dunno:

Killed an afternoon, yesterday, anyway.

The game just changed with the addition of tunnels :D

I just found out you can use various swipes on the PS4 touchpad for shortcuts to Witcher menus.

Been playing the Witcher 3 on my Xbone and have been enjoying it. Looks amazing and it am having a lot of fun exploring the world. The combat feels a bit odd at times but isn't bad just needs practice and better weapons and armour really help. As does igni, I almost use it non stop in battle.

I only really use igni. I'm hoping a point to the other spells reveals itself.

I use the shield on in battle and if combat takes a while pop it back on. The force on is good against the shielded dudes or even just normal humans who like to keep blocking. I have read that the one that screws with their mind is also good against humans and shielded dudes for getting some hits in.

Quen (shield) seems bit OP as its possible to cast it for free before battle. Axii helps with dialogue and works/stuns on everything so far (especially shielded) though its single target and Puppet seems to be bugged. Yrden (trap/glyph) is lol due to AI but I use it quite a lot as I prefer caster playstyle. Have not invested anything in Igni nor Aard but so far I am content with magic. Less content with movement/camera dunno whats up with that.

Casting quen for free before battle isn't really a problem it is meant to be encourage the player not to rush into combat but to plan it out.

I don't know if it is just me but you are meant to be able to see the enemies health and level a bit before they notice you and start attacking. But every time I have run into a group with too high a level bad guys in it I have not seen it till they are already yelling about me and firing ranged attacks.

There are playstyles in this?

I'll probably end up about 12 hours into this before the game clicks with me and I end up starting again because I've realsied I've done everything wrong. Happens every time I play these stupid RPGs. I wish I had the brains to suss them out in advance.

I am fine with preps, they are not mandatory, and as you noted on higher difficulties preparation for fights is indeed encouraged by design via bestiary, vulnerabilities and alchemy. Just imo Quen is quite powerful, overpowered well that's another way of saying that.

Its not just you, same here.

Of course there are play styles, you don't get enough talent points to fill up everything in those trees as far as I know. So if you want to focus on doing more magic, more potions, more oils or more just swinging the sword you have to focus your points towards that. Of course Geralt is an all rounder so the basic stuff is open to everyone but the high level play is going to be a tad different.

Supposedly the first wrong thing everyone is going to do is sell your starting gear, it seems at least some of it is needed for the high level crafting.

Well, yes via character progression/development. Not sure what max level is and how many points there are in the game to distribute but lets say you can chose to deflect projectiles by parrying if you have the talent or you can destroy them by placing upgraded Yrden in right spot. I can imagine people beating the game only with melee (playstyle:) but other people will opt for different approach.

Neither do I really since I haven't played a lot of the other games. So I am sticking with a mostly melee focused build. Boosting the strength of my attacks and defence with some extra points thrown in boosting the magic I use the most, like igni and the mind one in conversations.

If its well designed and functioning it should not matter. You would need to know only if you were building the most powerful character for example but for playing through the game having fun .. pick what sounds fun (and complements your style!) to you. Besides, there is respec potion for 1000 early in game if you are not content with your picks.

Explore Novigrad merchants. I stumbled upon it like that. Seems there is unlimited number of them, there is new one each time I talk to the merchant.
