One of the trilogies even takes place in the Dragonlance world, which I used to read back in the day. The battle system takes some getting used to, but I'm enjoying it so far. Should keep me occupied for awhile!
I played all of those when they came out. Champions of Krynn remains my favourite game of all time. Baldur's Gate was far superior but CoK came out at just the right time and did all of the right things.
After the Gold Box games came Forgotten Realms Unlimited Adventures which allowed you to make your own games in the style of the Gold Boxes. There was (and possibly is) a thriving community who made a load of games.
Yes, I definitely think Baldur's Gate is way better and the gold box games don't scratch my "truly primitive" itch, but still there's something very satisfying about them. Do wish there was a quick reload though, I keep fucking up the battle controls
I did get the Unlimited Adventures one as well, looking forward to trying that out. I've no doubt there's a bunch of people out there who made games for it.
