Bullying happens, just learn and teach the children how to deal with it.
Maybe people just need to be opened minded instead of putting passive aggressive peer pressure to conform. Names are what you make of them? I doubt any of you would care about the name Hannibal if it wasn't a name of a Cardigian General or Character in the movies.

"Spatula"?

It's not a matter of being open-minded or conforming because of peer pressure. It's as you say, kids have enough to deal with when it comes to all the things that they will be teased about, giving them a name to just make it worse, is stupid.

I got teased because of my surname, its Sexton. Just because I was am a big guy you get people saying Six ton instead. That was from primary school, but in secondary school no one thought of it. To me that just shows the ones that bully will find what ever to piss you off but most of the time bullies are a very small part of a school. If there is universal bullying at all levels and a large chunk of the school populace its a problem with the school not the name.
There are women in England called that, so its not bizarre thing for me. I have had friends from many countries so I guess I am used to complex / different names.

I had an aunt named "Billie" it's usually a short form of Wilhelmina. Which is what teachers used to ask me "why didn't your parents name you Wilhelmina?" Thank you. I'd rather not. I used to get called "Billy goat" one of my b-i-ls used to call me "Billy the Kid." My dad was drunk when he went to register me. He named me for my "godparents" he was Billy short for William, so my dad thought it was cute to give me that name. I don't mind it now. My new grandson is named Arthur William, sort of to honour me, so I'm quite pleased.
