The first appearance of the Daleks.

1963, so I was 8. Terrifying.

And this was before Eddie Izzard pointed out that one could escape from them by simply going upstairs. If only I'd realized that at the time...

Y'know what's terrifying to me? That a person could live for 66 years and have no idea why you can have an emotional response when watching movies. Yikes.

On topic, Large Marge from Peewee's Big Adventure scared the piss out of me as a kid. Well, maybe more shocked than scared. Also that scene in Howard The Duck where Jeffrey Jones sticks his tongue in the cigarette lighter. Those aliens were pretty badass looking too.

Ah yes... the Dark Overlord, courtesy of stop-motion animation by Phil Tippett and his crew.
After the svelte Lea Thompson in T-shirt and panties, the stop-motion animation was the second-best part of the movie...

It was the Cybermen for me who were my 'behind the sofa' aliens from Doctor Who.
She battled through in every kind of tribulation,
She revelled in adventure and imagination.
She never listened to no hater, liar,
Breaking boundaries and chasing fire.
Oh, my my! Oh my, she flies!

Anyone remembers Quatermass in the 1950's on television. Scared the living daylights out of me and I was only watching on a black and white tv with 405 lines definition.

Somebody should have made a horror film called "The Thing That Could See Through Sofas". Then the kiddies would have no place to hide...

Well that's interesting. This year's Scot is not the same as last year's Scot who apparently never had the problem of being scared while watching a film, and who couldn't understand why anyone would.

It was thanks to Quatermass that I realised how stupid it was to be scared of a tv programme.

I was doing my National Service at that time. We were all in the NCOs mess, er, comforting the lady NCOs... Quatermass was, er, 'scary'.

Absolutely. They still give me chills.
The problem with fantasies is you can't really insist that everyone else believes in yours, the other problem with fantasies is that most believers of fantasies eventually get around to doing exactly that.

It's fairly common but that big nosed child catching fucker in Vulgaria freaked the crap out of me for years (think I saw it around age 4)
My brother used to shout, "Lollipops, ice cream" when I was trying to get to sleep.

We went to Neuschwanstein when I was about 7 and I was still spooked when twatneck told me we were going down into the village for "lollipops and ice cream" afterwards.
The Bible is full of interest. It has noble poetry in it; and some clever fables; and some blood-drenched history; and some good morals; and a wealth of obscenity; and upwards of a thousand lies.

It gets boring when you cant think logically. Why did you think I did not have a problem? I solved it at a very young age so what is the problem? Is that just too difficult for you to get your head around?
