It's okay. At least when you come back here and tell me you hated it, I can just say that you misread the film.

I'm not convinced I'll like this. Sell it to me.

I don't know if you will like it, but I think it's one of those movies that most critics misunderstood. And you're the only one who watches the movies that I do, so....

It threw me at first, because if you view it as a straight thriller then it's not really up to much. There's not a lot of suspense. And the conclusion isn't much of a twist. "Erotic thriller" doesn't quite catch what's in there, either. Those bits are more like a frame for the film, but Campion uses cinematography, unusual casting, characters and relationships to make something else out of the materials. The way Ryan's character seems to walk into danger threw a lot of people, I think. People couldn't work out if it was self-endangerment or subjective strength. I'm throwing my lot in with the latter.

It's one of the best presentations of a woman's interiority I've seen in a film.

The hateful eight - I had low expectations being a film from tarantino's "every goddamn film I make is shitter than the last" period (which either started with reservoir dogs or pulp fiction), but it's actually pretty good, 7/10. Original plot, and not overly long. Although I can't escape the nagging feeling that had he made it 20 years ago it would have been half the length and fucking awesome.

Speaking of which, I just finished watching Queen of Carthage on Netflix about an American drifter who becomes enchanted by a New Zealand singer.

As someone who generally hates comic book superheroes, I suspect I'll hate this too: in-jokes and breaking the fourth wall of a genre I despise will just piss me off even more. Am I wrong?

Deadpool does not take itself seriously. If I was not ignorant of comics I would say there is difference between comic book superheroes and movie adaptation of comic book superheroes.

This film got some stick, but I like it.

You don't really get to see much of Melissa Leo though, but I think Andrea Riseborough is rather lovely.

Hmm...I'll certainly look into it now that my current interior design project is more or less complete.

Around halfway through Interstellar. They woke up Matt Damon and the professor just died. Murph figured out there is no Plan A, apparently.

Fucking tense movie.
