You know you've really had it with the movies of M. Knight Shyamalan when you see an article about his new movie, Split, which discusses 'that ending', warning of major spoilers and you read it anyway, because it's better to just get it over with quickly than watch another of his films.

Well I refuse to be rational about this. :snooty:
She battled through in every kind of tribulation,
She revelled in adventure and imagination.
She never listened to no hater, liar,
Breaking boundaries and chasing fire.

Sinister was on Amazon Prime, so I watched that. It had pretty solid bits in it. I loved the style of the found footage. The very slow silent hanging was really creepy, and the lawnmower one was just wicked. Mr Boogie wasn't overplayed. There was a bit with the stepladder into the attic where I thought was nicely shot.

I was annoyed that the kids were all told to do Kubrick stares. It just looks silly, IMO.

Ah, thank you, I did not know that. Anyway, glad you enjoyed the film. It grabbed me straight away with its horrible, quiet malevolence, and yes, I think the film footage is really well done. As I said, don't bother with the second film. The bad guy is overplayed in that one.

I'll get onto that list when I get home, still in work at the moment.

Ryan Gosling is incredible.

Image

La La Land is the most enchanting movie of 2016, but besides the singing and dancing, one particular element will dazzle you: Ryan Gosling's piano skills. He plays a struggling jazz purist in the film, and there are some musical scenes that may cause you to wonder if it's really Gosling playing or a body double. Shocking as it may be, it's definitely Gosling playing the whole time!

"In fact, there's not a single close-up shot of [the character] Sebastian's hands in the entire movie that's a piano double," director Damien Chazelle said at a press event for the movie. "It's all Ryan." Even John Legend, who has a smaller part in the film, was impressed: "I was jealous, man," he said. "Watching him play, I was like, 'Wow, this guy is really good and he just learned this in the last few months.' It's pretty amazing."

How is one person this talented?

He does a fair job of channeling Gene Kelly too!!

Not for everyone but any Moulin Rouge fans should be delighted.

and

La La Land, the movie musical which broke records at the Golden Globes earlier this month – where it took more awards than any other film in history – looks likely to repeat the trick at February’s Oscars

Damien Chazelle’s movie musical is up for best picture, director, actor, actress, original screenplay, cinematography, costume design, film editing, original score, original song (twice, for both City of Stars and Audition), production design, sound editing and sound mixing. This puts it level-pegging with current nominee record-holders All About Eve (1950) and Titanic (1997) and on course for continued celebration at the ceremony itself. All About Eve went on to win six Oscars; Titanic took 11.

Semms Hollywod was sick and tired of a doom and gloom 2016 and wanted a feel good high note to end on...while I think the awards may be overstated ...some are not. Ryan should get it JUST for his piano playing.

Sort of ...not quite to the level of Moulin Rouge but elements..fantasy, love story, rags to riches, it's an inside Hollywood kaleidoscope ...film fans will have a ball with all the tributes/references, channeling of earlier glory.

Why the fixation on Moulin Rouge? Is it the only musical you've seen or something?

There are also some whose names I can't remember, but Jennifer might know...

One of these - 4 friends meet up to commemorate death of mother of one of them, is some kind of force field in the area and odd things happen, think they start to go a bit mental.
