Was this supposed to be funny?

Like the base premise is hilarious, but as per the first deadpool movie the humor is very much Seth Rogan-esque in that it overextends its arm and doesn't end the joke soon enough and when it does the climax of the joke just seems worn and weak instead of what it could have been. It's just sloppy script and directing at that point.

Like almost every SNL sketch since 1980.

YOU WOULD LOVE IT JENNIFER!

Two aging men, one borderline senile, the other a drunk and grumpy, embark on a journey to bring this mute, border-line psychotic and unstable girl to a place where she could be at peace all the while being pursued by mercenaries hell bent on capturing the girl because they are sick and twisted and performed experimentation on her and other children. It is a movie where the one drunk and grumpy man, Logan, truly finds himself. Really dark, and really poetic.

Not really the stuff of entertainment for an Aussie.
I mean, that just sounds like day-to-day life in the Outback. :coffee:

Neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrds!

But yes, I will see the film eventually, when I'm forced to sit through it with my brother. He will, of course, insist that I pay particular attention to some specific scene as if it's really important to the whole film and not just some nerd-fare that he's hit upon in his travels through nerd-dom.

Image

Insufferably bland main character in a by-the-numbers "thriller".
Frodo is introduced as a supporting hero, promptly forgotten for much of the movie then reemerges toward the end as a villain. This is the pinnacle of inventiveness in the writing. There's a brief reference to the Salem witch trials, and even that is screwed up. (The accused in that actual event were hanged, not burned).
The CG is godawful... looks like the FX team sneaked into the studio of a Harry Potter movie and lifted some reject material off the editing-room floor.
Perhaps the worst part of it is the ending, which is an obvious set-up for a sequel or (Satan save us!) a series.
My score: 3/10

Talking of nerds, I watched Warcraft the other day. OK then. It felt like snippets stitched together, and lacking in any dramatic tension. Even my own nerdiness over Warcraft wasn't enough to make me enjoy it.

Also saw Arrival last night. Now that is a film.

Every time I see the word nerds, my brain adds the word thighs. Thanks Ratskep. :nono:

Fun fact: when the aliens in Arrival first arrive, you can distinctly hear the Abba track 'Dum Dum Diddle'.
