Glad you like it. I’ll let the lad know.

With the exception of the opening music he did the rest of the soundtrack. It’s just a sample of his screams. It’s funny because I actually recognize his voice in the sample despite it being played low and slow.

Oh cool. I was humming it for several minutes afterwards. I’m not spooked by this. Noooot at all. Nope. :snooty:

Rian Johnson's meta-murder mystery is one of the best movies this year.

Speaking of which, I hear the new Star Wars is a bunch of fan-service appeasement which tries to retcon TLJ with horrible results.

Nice Dreams with Cheech and Chong. Inexplicably bad. I knew it would be juvenile, but this, I had no idea. Thanks for giving stoners a bad dumb name.

ETA - Peewee Herman was in it, pre-stardom presumably?

Paul “pee wee” Ruebens had bit parts in a number of movies including this one with Weird Al. Pee-wee’s playhouse was an (adult) off broadway show IIRC before it was developed into a Saturday morning kid’s show.

I've been meaning to watch UHF for about 25 years now. I have the dvd version on a hard drive around here somewhere. One of these days.
Wow I found a version of the live Pee Wee show pre-tv on youTube. I've never seen a full episode the Playhouse show though, I was too old for it when it was current. I did like the Big Adventure movie when it came out though, I was 12. I still chuckle thinking about it even though I've never seen it since. :picard:

Nice Dreams had a pre-star cameo from another actor who would become semi-famous: Jones from Police Academy. He was only on-screen for a minute or less, where Pee Wee was in a handful of scenes. They were both mental patients.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

You know, this wasn't actually too bad. A little bit boring to start with, despite what felt like a lot of action. I started to question the point of it all. However, I paid attention as they set up the story. Towards the middle, there is some pay-off in the way of the crashed Death Star and some great scenery. Visually, I found myself enjoying the details of spaceship interiors and various droids. All very well done.

There was some overkill during the final battle, I felt. The oddly interjected humour at times was mildly cringeworthy, but did raise a few genuine chuckles. There was some interpersonal weirdness between characters, and there were things that made me question what the Force is capable of — or, rather, those who use the Force. In the end, it managed to roll across the finish line, and I was glad it was all over.

Kind of enjoyable, if a little drawn-out in places.

When I was a teenager, we had two dollar Tuesday at the multiplex. We paid two dollars and then went from theatre to theatre for the afternoon and evening. I saw PeeWee’s Big Adventure every Tuesday for the entire summer. Still one of my favourite movies of all time.

Phil Hartman!

I wasn't too familiar with him, but I remember the name. I see on his credits that he was the "head honcho" at the toxic waste plant in Fletch Lives.

Nice. I'd watch it again now, I might even like it more.
I'm watching the live Pee Wee Playhouse performance that I shared above, it's pretty good!

In preparation for Rise of the Skywalker I'm about to watch the first two again. I haven't seen either since seeing them in the cinema. At the time I found TFA quite enjoyable and really liked the rather subversive and divisive TFA.

Oh wait! This is TLJ.

But while I'm here, there's a criticism I keep hearing of TLJ about bombs being dropped in space. Looking at it now there's a couple of things to note. The people on the bomber are walking around in the bay which contains the bombs. So we can presume artificial gravity here. If this is the case when the bombs fall within this space they would continue on their path once they come out of the ships influence surely? So I don't think it's much of a flaw.

The ship being bombed is also massive and there's a planet below that which would also exert some gravity I think. Though I'm not sure the range from which a planet's gravitational influence becomes negligible.

the simple answer is the ships may not be in orbit and therefore not in free fall, they may be holding a fixed position (relatively speaking) above the planet. no artificial gravity needed, the planet supplies plenty.

Still enjoyed The Last Jedi. Most of the gripes I've read since last time just seem petit to me. And the reaction even more hysterical.

Like the blue milk scene. This was Luke deliberately trying to dissuade Rey from following him by disgusting her. Or people saying they handled Luke badly as if people can't get older and more jaded over time. You only have to look at the old school Star Wars fan boys to see this happens. I wasn't even bothered by the casino scene this time.

It's clear the intention of this movie to be iconoclastic and to replace the old with the new by handing over torch (sabre), yet funnily this is exactly what the disgruntled fans have railed against.

Another idea within it is the rejection of bloodlines and the Force as being something which anyone can have. We even see a slave kid exhibit Force powers at the end with promise of some sort of new wave Jedi uprising.

Unfortunately it seems Disney and JJ have forsaken Rian Johnson's movie and this won't be followed up, instead deciding to pander to fans and nostalgia. But we'll see.

What is clear that Kathleen Kennedy and Lucasfilm didn't do, was create a coherent storyline way ahead of production. The directors being free, but within constrains.
I didn't like either movie, I haven't seen the most recent. Neither felt 'Star Warsy' to me; both were just way over the top with their overkill scenes, like the planet killing planet, or the super-duper super-duper super-duper-sized capitol ship and her screaming General. I did like Rouge One, that dialled in well for me, plus I love Felicity Jones..
