American film and stage actress and model, known for her distinctive husky voice and sultry looks.
She first emerged as a leading lady in the Humphrey Bogart film To Have and Have Not (1944) and continued on in the film noir genre, with appearances in Bogart movies The Big Sleep (1946), Dark Passage (1947), and Key Largo (1948), as well as comedic roles in How to Marry a Millionaire (1953) with Marilyn Monroe and Designing Woman (1957) with Gregory Peck. Bacall worked on Broadway in musicals, gaining Tony Awards for Applause in 1970 and Woman of the Year in 1981. Her performance in the movie The Mirror Has Two Faces (1996) earned her a Golden Globe Award and an Academy Award nomination.
In 1999, Bacall was ranked #20 of the 25 actresses on the AFI's 100 Years... 100 Stars list by the American Film Institute. In 2009, she was selected by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to receive an Academy Honorary Award "in recognition of her central place in the Golden Age of motion pictures."

Arlene Martel

American actress and acting coach. Prior to 1964, she was frequently billed as Arline Sax, Arlene Sax or as Tasha Martel.
In 1962 Martel made her first of two appearances on Perry Mason as Fiona Cregan in The Case of the Absent Artist. Later, she guest starred as Sandra Dunkel in The Case of the Dead Ringer (1966) when Raymond Burr doubled as Mason and the actual murderer Grimes, an old sea salt.

(30 years)
The only polar bear in Africa has died at Johannesburg Zoo in South Africa. The much-loved bear, Wang, had to be put down because of heart and liver failure, the zoo said in a statement. The bear was brought to South Africa in 1986 as part of a conservation exchange programme with a zoo in China.

Yes, I have pictures of him and his mate somewhere. They were one of my kids' favourites to visit at the zoo, and my son took my grandson to see him too.

Brazilian economist and politician. He was the leader of the Brazilian Socialist Party – Partido Socialista Brasileiro (PSB). On 13 August 2014, the Cessna 560XL aircraft Campos was flying in crashed into a residential building in Santos, São Paulo, leaving no survivors.The Brazilian Air Force said the plane crashed as it was preparing to land, adding that bad weather may have been to blame for the the accident.

Italian-born American operatic soprano. Noted especially for her portrayals of the lyric heroines of Verdi and Puccini, Albanese was a leading artist with the Metropolitan Opera of New York from 1940 to 1966. She also made many recordings and was chairman of The Licia Albanese-Puccini Foundation which is dedicated to assisting young artists and singers.

Lauren Bacall was one of the movie stars I really admired. She didn't do anything to stop time, just went along with it and played age-appropriate parts as she got older. The last of the "old broads." (And I mean that in the nicest way).

Was one of the most prominent figures of modern Persian literature and one of the most outstanding amongst the contemporary Persian poets. She was Iran's national poet and an icon of the Iranian intelligentsia and literati who affectionately refer to her as the lioness of Iran. B. K. S. Iyengar, or Bellur Krishnamachar Sundararaja Iyengar
(December 14, 1918 – August 20, 2014)
Founded the style of yoga known as "Iyengar Yoga" and was considered one of the foremost yoga teachers in the world. He has written many books on yoga practice and philosophy including Light on Yoga, Light on Pranayama, and Light on the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. Iyengar yoga classes are offered throughout the world. Iyengar was one of the earliest students of Tirumalai Krishnamacharya, who is often referred to as "the father of modern yoga".
