True dat. But there's a bunch of caveats for me.

While I am happy supporting real creator's work, I don't believe very much of my support paid directly to YT would go towards channels which aren't essentially just reproducing other peoples' work for free (as it the case with a lot of music vids) - and typically, music I like I've already purchased on some other format - playing it off YT is convenience more than anything.

I don't listen to music on my desktop, which is where I most frequently view YT. I tend to play it downstairs on the family TV while we're having dinner or something.

Advertising is at its most outrageous and obnoxious - downright offensive even - when it interrupts a musical moment... paying to remove something that obnoxious that they've expressly implanted feels like a damn protection racket!

Essentially, they're making people pay to cure a disease they've intentionally built in to make people seek out the cure. Advertising doesn't need to be inserted into videos, it doesn't even need to be in video form. Unobtrusive advertising is a necessary evil, but YT has weaponized advertising to a level I think is reaching for dystopia.

I don't easily laugh out loud - just doesn't happen often for me. But I can't watch that scene without laughing.

Speaking of alternative sources of music:

I've just received a notifcation in my iTunes, on my phone, evidently wanting me to sign up to Apple Music again. I used it for a little while some time ago, and cancelled it, because while their range of rock music and the like may be impressive, its selection of classical music is simply pathetic.

But that's not why I mention it. The notification started with this: "On vous a manqué."

You've missed us.

That is so cheeky, I wonder whether it was just an inept automatic translation of "We've missed you", by a programme that doesn't realise that French turns subject and object around in that phrase.

Had you asked me to write 'we missed you' in French - I would've written that, so maybe just an inept French speaker? :D

Install ublock origin .
Then go to my filters and copy paste :
youtube.com##+js(set, yt.config_.openPopupConfig.supportedPopups.adBlockMessageViewModel, false)

youtube.com##+js(set, Object.prototype.adBlocksFound, 0)

youtube.com##+js(set, ytplayer.config.args.raw_player_response.adPlacements, [])

youtube.com##+js(set, Object.prototype.hasAllowedInstreamAd, true)

click on apply changes

Problem solved !

PS : If you still get the annoying pop up, which I doubt you will, restart your pc.

Not solely to remove ads, but being able to shut the screen on my cell phone while videos continue to play, or make "play next" ques on the cellphone might be enough to make it worthwhile for me. No plans for that now though.

I know what you mean, but "tour kids" actually has a snappy ring to it. I love the QWERTY keyboard and this is one reason.

Having witnessed how perfectly benign views gets slowly converted to ever less appropriate content on t'tube, I am not sure that advertising matters so much comparatively.

My son likes to watch animal videos. Search, click, view.

Oh, you like animal videos? Here are some funny animal videos. Click, view.

Oh you like funny videos? Here are some funny memes. Click, view.

Oh you like funny memes? Here are some try-not-to-laugh meme videos. Click, view.

<By this point, half the suggested videos have busty women scantily dressed as their thumbnail.>

Oho, well as you like that, then here's some you-laugh-you-lose videos. Click, view.

Then obviously, you must also enjoy these edgelord intend-to-offend videos making light of the Holocaust, Nazis, black lives matter, etc.

I hard reset the app every couple of weeks, but the pathway there is totally benign just caused by a kid looking for some laughs on YT.

My ad blocker's working again, thank goodness; for the moment anyway, it's an arms race, isn't it?

In general, I don't mind ads, I accept they're the price I have to pay for free stuff on the internet, but YTs ads are so annoying, if they were at the beginning of the vids, or if podcasts and things had designated breaks for them, I wouldn't mind, but having your podcast interrupted mid-sentence, or the song you're listening to stop mid guitar solo, or whatever is just too much.
