Insulting Islam

Was watching a Religious prog on TV this morning and the commentator was just about to say Mohammad, peace be on his holy name and all that, was gay but stopped himself. I feel this was fear rather than than respect as there were quite a few Muslims in the studio audience and a fatwa can really ruin your day. So should people feel frightened of sayin' Mohammad, peace be unto his name and all that jazz, was gay or is this just for Jesus. It ain't a insult anyway since it's pretty cool to be a spiritual leader with a liberal lifestyle I would have thought?

I saw that programme too, he very obviously stopped himself from saying Mohammed was gay. Nicky Campbell is not going to go for the controversial route so while I agree that fear of fatwa's may have come into it, I think the 'offence' fear would have too. Its a really wishy washy debate show where the theists are given free reign

None. He just referenced the fact that Elton John suggested that Jesus might've been gay as a comparison to the reaction you might expect for saying the same thing about Mohammed. And he stopped himself deliberately to make exactly that point. I think he did it for effect rather than because he was genuinely worried.

I was just the usual "we're so badly done by in the media" from religious people insisting that their religion is the one that's the most oppressed. The muslim lady pointed out the adjectives most commonly tied to "muslim" in the media, and the Christian fella pointed out that the media actually have a habit of pussyfooting around Islam rather than criticising it in the same way that they'd criticise Christianity.
