I get a little glassy eyed too... not so much with the original, but with his version.

Oh yeah, I'll be honest: the original version pretty much does nothing for me.

I don't know if anyone posted these...

I love this version better than the original:

...but the original's still good.

"Let it Be" is not even CLOSE to the saddest Beatles song.

Good song.

Speaking of The Beatles, here are some sad Lennon songs:

Oooooh, I love John Lennon!

I found Imagine on vinyl at a local record shop for A DOLLAR. The sleeve wasn't in the best shape, but the record itself was perfect.

Gallstones wrote:This isn't really a song, but it is recited by a singer, the one who wrote it. I think the sentiment is deeply beautiful and it brings me to tears.

Leonard Cohen, London Live version of a Thousand Kisses Deep.

Before I saw the Romeo and Juliet film clip, I thought it was about an abused woman trying to make an escape with her child but being caught and killed by her husband.

Either way, it's terribly sad.

This song was considered so depressing that it was banned by the BBC and other broadcasters after erroneous newspaper reports claimed that it was inspiring people to suicide. I've always liked the Venetian Snares remix of the Billie Holiday version from his amazing Rossz Csillag Allat Szuletett CD...

Billie holiday sounds more miserable but Sarah Vaughan did the cover with the reputation maybe SV appeals to people who've hit the bottle of pills and are not listening to the more subtle intonation?
