Bernie Sanders dropped a reality bomb on the corporate media by declaring that Donald Trump will not be elected president.

Sanders was asked by CNN’s Anderson Cooper about his comment that Donald Trump is a pathological liar. The Democratic presidential candidate responded by unloading on Trump.

Sen. Sanders (I-VT) pointed to Politico and PolitiFact fact checks that found Trump statements untrue and said:

Overwhelmingly, almost everything he says is just not true. He just says things off the top of his head…Time after time, he says things that are just not true, and I think more and more people understand that. That is above and beyond the fact that almost every day he is insulting Latinos, and Mexicans, Muslims, women, African-Americans.

I mean there is a reason why this guy will not be elected President Of The United States. That type of temperament. That kind of divisiveness which his engendering. The kind of violence that he is encouraging is not what the American people want.

In Utah, when I beating Donald Trump by eleven points in what is one of the most conservative states in the country, it is clear to me that Donald Trump is not going to be elected President Of The United States of America.

(CNN)Bernie Sanders has proved to be a durable Democratic presidential candidate based on his vision of democratic socialism. But while the Vermont senator's ideas may be new to many, he's actually been articulating them for decades -- including as a frequent guest on CNN's former debate show "Crossfire."

Show transcripts from 1998 to 2014 show he's been remarkably consistent. Much of Sanders' language could be taken straight out his 2016 stump speech. Though on some issues, such as health care, foreign policy, and the VA scandal, his views have shifted slightly in the midst of his run for the highest office in the land.

The problem I see with this assessment is that by and large people in the USA expect and accept that their Dear Leaders lie to them.

Lies only seem to be 'wrong' when they come from someone we're already disposed to dislike.

The cops lied? So what?

The military brass lied? So what?

The President lied? So what?

The CIA lied? So what?

laklak wrote:Absolutely, Nicko, but there is also a case to be made against over-regulation and over-taxation, particularly in the small business sector. These people aren't Big Business, even if they own several hundred rental properties, they're small potatoes. There must be a happy medium, a position at which consumer rights are protected, but business owners can still turn a reasonable profit. Most of the disagreement, IMO, centers around what is "reasonable".

Agreed.

Perhaps the solution is to make CGT regressive, like income tax. That way, "Mom and Pop" - who slaved and saved to buy a couple of rentals - aren't put in the same category as someone who owns huge chunks of several major corporations.

Some of the Saudis fund terrorism.

It might be a lot less easy for the nation as a whole to nod and wink towards this if they were expected to pay the bill.

Maybe Trump can negotiate this for us, like he's going to get Mexico to pay the USA to build a new Berlin Wall.

I was pretty tired when I watched the "town hall" last night. What I took from Sanders is to stop pretending Saudi Arabia is innocent. They are as bad as Iran, who is demonized. He was saying the US should not be using their military to fight for Saudi Arabia. They can use their own military for that. He also said that Israel is not innocent either, and they contribute to the problems with the Palestinians.

I would need to re-watch it today but I think his positions are more nuanced than the media is reporting.
We should probably go for a can of vegetables because not only would it be a huge improvement, you'd also be able to eat it at the end.

An interesting series on the Beeb last night about inside the White House. Last night was about all the manoeuvring Obama was forced to do to get any part of Obamacare through Congress. Then he had the House of Reps with him. I just tried to imagine how Sanders would ever get any one of his pipe dreams through. Impossible.

As has been explained to you numerous times Scot, through the people at the political revolution Sander's is proposing.

Funny thing is, they all said the same things you were saying to Martin Luther King.

Which is what I meant by "expecting them to pay the bill" for turning a blind eye to the spread of Wahabbism.

Equality is just a pipe dream, so we should just be pragmatic like people in the Netherlands and take advantage of it!
