So the holy spirit is ineffectual over distances greater than a couple of femtometres then.

Sounds about right.

I suppose satan is electrical repulsion or something as well.

Well clearly. He wants to get rid of it all. I mean how do you expect him to prevent nuclear war without making atoms unstable.

I'd like to hear Fischer elaborate an this idea a bit. For instance, it seems that Jesus is powerless to directly affect the electromagnetic force itself. He can only exert his own force to oppose it. This suggests that the EMF was not actually created by God, which leaves open the question of its origin. Was it created by Satan? Or is it perhaps part of the "nothing" from which God created the universe?

Fischer is usually an unhinged right wing wackaloon. But not here. Here, he is engaging in Serious Theology. What he is expounding on is the Fine Tuning Argument for the existence of God, just boiled down to a single specific example.

Obviously not, as He is "powerless to directly affect the electromagnetic force itself". On the other hand, He IS required for all the other elements, not just in the holy land, but throughout the universe.

The most prevalent isotope of Hydrogen with a nucleus that has a single proton constitutes 99.98% of all the hydrogen in the observable universe, and since 91% of all the observable matter in the Universe is Hydrogen. I guess the natural conclusion is that Jesus isn't necessary at least 9 times out of 10.

Oh, sh*t! I forgot that protons themselves, not just heavier nuclei, are held together by the strong interaction. So Jesus rules hydrogen as well IF He is responsible for the strong interaction. (Big if, though, eh? )

[aside]What is "spontaneous" about a law of physics, even if it is one that permits symmetry-breaking in the first place?

Richiyaado was talking about Hydrogen. Why did you feel the need to bring Helium into the conversation?
