I don't think I'll be buying more equipment anytime soon. I will replace my telephoto lens that doesn't work anymore when I get enough cash together, but we have other more pressing things to pay for. I can still use it manually, so it's not a terrible issue, and I do have the new camera bought with insurance money, but I must admit when I see people with nice lenses, I do get lens envy.

Lately I've seen some fair pictures shot from a Samsung Galaxy S 7. Providing they're not enlarged into poster size, this technology must be biting into the point and shoot camera sales to the ordinary consumer. In fact I've seen photos shot on such devices that are the same if not sometimes better than the results of point and shoot compacts.

I've got quite a few lenses, and if I lived in Africa I'd definitely want a bigger telephoto, but otherwise, my most often used lens is a simple 50mm f1.8 'standard' lens.

Yes you need a nice long lens to get good animal shots.

I'm thinking of swapping my Lumix G6 for the new Lumix G80. It has some good reviews. Any comments?

Sounds like a big step up in the evolution of the G6-7. It does have great reviews. Go for it.

So what do we think of the Nikon D3400?

It's fortunate I work in the airport. I just had a look around the high street and the D3400 is €100 more for the non-VR version and nearly 200 for the VR lens one (the airport charges the same for both)!

Perks of the job. :smug:

Whenever I want to buy something in an airport, I have to show my boarding pass. As if somehow I would have got that far without it.

Spent the last couple of hours just watching videos on what all the buttons do. I haven't got an SD card and can't get one til the shops open so can't use it yet. It's funny how I know some of this stuff already from the photo modes on computer games.

I'm not sure why they do that. I'm staff and I still need to produce my badge number.

Couldn't find an insect to test out the Close Up preset. Had to make do.

Some of my pics are a little grainy. Though they're mostly the ones where I'm pushing it to extremes of shutter speed and aperture size.

if you're planning on taking HD videos, a class 10 card is recommended for smooth playback.
