What ruins it all is the turn-based combat. If I want crap like that I'll play literal table-top RPGs *snort*.

Tried out The Surge. Really like it. A lot more forgiving than a souls game, actually. You can bank the "souls" you collect, so you can keep them even after you die and cannot retrieve the ones from your "dead body."

Also, dodging is easier. Good for filthy casuals, like myself.

So, apparently Steam has started selling anime series and films?

I'm 10 or so hours into it as a first time player of Stellaris. I can't comment on how much Utopia improves on the core game, because I've not tried it without the expansion, but I'm certainly impressed.

If I'm not much mistaken, you can find sites that'll let you download or play GemCraft - Labyrinth for free. It's a few years old, but still offers hours of great gameplay. Or there's the newer GemCraft - Chasing Shadows, available on on Steam for £6.99/whatever they're charging in euros.

[Edit: it looks like you can just play a flash version of the latter, too.]

I'm thinking about installing Skyrim again, just to try this:

I like Cursed Treasure, Kingdom Rush, and Bloons TD, all in free (or freemium) flash-versions from their respective companies.

If you'd like to explore a few others, newgrounds has quite a selection, of varying quality...

Thanks. I finished Kingdom Rush already, but I didn't know the others. I searched in Steam for "tower defense" games, but it didn't return me anything. Since my Steam is in French, it's only when I searched "défense de tour" that it provided some results. Idiot.

Played far, far too much of it. I suffered a bit from restartitis in terms of realising just how much better I could use my time, finally got over that and am now in September, having resigned myself to a number of wasted days.

Generally I love the game, the aesthetic, the music, the pacing, all very good. It's pretty interesting having read about the series in a number of places over recent years to see what it's all about. The very quintessence of the JRPG from the nonsensensical characterisations and stereotypes down to the tips of its gameplay. Wonderful and bizarre in equal measure.

In game the summer off-period and the mementos music are a bit of a let down, but there's no denying this is a classic.
