I suppose that if you'd never watched any of the original series you weren't in a position to know that it was essentially galactic Power Rangers. :tehe:

Well, fuck.

I mean, I loved the original Mighty Morphin series, back in the 90's. Grew up on it. But, now, even that would look silly. Even more so because it was live-action, but this Voltron series isn't even weird, it's just...I don't know... :dunno:

There's that Gundam thing. That seems to be immensely popular. But, never felt like giving that one a go.

EDIT: The soundtracks are so retro. I kinda like it. 8-)

Seriously, though, Power Rangers copied Voltron, not the other way around. Power Rangers are small-time provincial Voltron.

I'm almost impressed by his what-Americans-think-Irish-people-sound-like accent, considering the actor's English.

So any of you wankingtons watching it? Clever stuff from Elton. Good cast but I particularly like Mark Heap as Robert Greene.

We watched the first ep., but found it quite disappointingly not funny. It pains me to say that, because we love David Mitchell and Mark Heap. Does that make me the chief wankington?

I unintentionally saw it and I was quite impressed. I like everything I have seen David Mitchell in from Peep Show onwards
His beard makes him look intellectual and Victoria Coren is lovely as well. Little one should be overjoyed to have them as parents. The equally lovely Stephanie of Gogglebox thinks she is a bit up her own arse but I disagree since I think Victoria
has inherited her fathers sense of humour. They should do another series of Peep Show but with David Mitchell and beard

and the fact that Power Rangers was pretty much inspired by the original Voltron.

Never really watched the original Voltron, though I always thought it looked cool. Watched the first episode of the new one, I thought the animation was great and liked most of the characters (except for the big one, trying way too hard), but I couldn't find anything interesting about the plot. Then again, Power Rangers also bored me to tears.

I dropped a post about it back when the show was still on, didn't get any responses. I watched most of them as they came out except for the last one, unfortunately I found out it was the last episode before I got around to watching it. Loved the Laurie Metcalfe episode. Great show despite its flaws, a total work of art.

I just really like it. The plot is incredibly bland though. But the characters and the humor more than make up for it in my opinion.

I could deal with the bland plot if it was actually funny. Like I said, the big guy seems forced to me. Maybe it gets better as it goes on?

Hunk was kind of annoying at first but he grew on me. I am only on episode 9 but like I said I think it handles itself well for a children's Netflix original.

Already finished. It's not a spoiler to say, there's a cliffhanger, so they should continue the series, just to have a proper conclusion.

Also, without actually bothering to check the wiki on the original series, I'm going to assume that Pidge's character, in the new-series, was gender-bent for the new series and wasn't in the original. Or was she? That's a pretty cool twist, then, for a show so retro.

Watched the latest Dragon Ball Super episode.

Glad they continued Future Trunk's story. Figured he'd reached Super Saiyan 2 and that Black was far stronger. I'm so used to the slow pace of the old series that this feels rushed to me. But, it's still good. At least, we get to see the important fights sooner. This'll be interesting. Finding out what Black's backstory is, will also be something to look forward to, finally! :)

Speculation: Maybe he comes from a time-line where Super Saiyan Blue Goku was cloned or something, so he has that level of power, plus he was given that time-manipulating ring. But, by who? One of the other gods from the other universes, maybe?

Dunno, I expect more from the folks that did Avatar and Korra. But I'll keep watching, really want to like this show.

Well, in Korra, Bolin's character was clearly supposed to be their version of Sokka and most of the attempted humor was clearly aimed at a young audience and was mostly cringe-worthy. However, anyone else who had some humorous scene pulled it off well enough.

I think Bolin was way better than Hunk, but even if we accept he was crap, there was so much more to the show. Voltron...not so much. But I was thinking when watching the show that Hunk was basically an uninteresting Sokka.

While I didn't like Korra anywhere near as much as Avatar (really hated some setting's stylistic choices), I don't see how you can possibly say Korra was awful. I don't think it's an exaggeration to say they're two of the best animated shows of our generation.

Just downloaded the whole of The Living and the Dead, which is a period supernatural drama from the writers of Life on Mars. Only on the first episode now, but it's very atmospheric.
