Life begins at... ...39?

#1  Postby Mitts » Mar 18, 2011 3:32 pm

Hi all.

Last Saturday I had a massive heart attack. If my partner hadn't called for an ambulance when she did I would not be here to type this message.

I'm letting all you good people know about this for a couple of reasons;

Firstly, everything is now so much more special than it was; my little boy's smile, blue sky, a hug, a cup of tea, a book, friends, parents, stars, my daughter dressed as a pirate... just everything.

Secondly that when I had the grim reaper standing at the end of my bed in hospital, beckoning to me with his bony finger I had absolute 'faith' in the doctors and nurses that cared for me and the science that backed them up. Despite being bought up catholic (managing to escape it's clutches about five years ago) I did not once give religion or god a single thought.
Just thought that was an interesting observation...

I have to take it easy for a few months now but I will be better than I was before thanks to science and a whole heap of medication!

Yes, life is a bit different after rubbing shoulders (probably not the most appropriate idiom) with the Grim Reaper. Take it easy old chap.

Get well soon!
We are alive, so the universe must be said to be alive. We are its consciousness as well as our own. We rise out of the cosmos and see its mesh of patterns, and it strikes us as beautiful. And that feeling is the most important thing in all the universe.

Zoiks, well done Mitts on pulling through, and doctors on doing the pulling. On the bright side, taking it easy for a few months might mean more time on ratskep.

Glad to hear you're here to tell the tale Mitts! Yes, we have the technology, we can rebuild you. If you don't mind me asking, were you treated with surgery or the Cath lab?

I'm even more encouraged, as a recovered Catholic myself, that you had no qualms about facing your mortality directly and honestly. Much respect from me! Best of luck with your recovery.

I'm glad you're still here, Mitts. I fucking hate hospitals, but I've been watching Comic Relief tonight and fuck me, but are we lucky to have them and all the brilliant doctors and nurses who work in them. I've had my brush with death too, and this daughter of a lapsed Catholic also never even thought to consider a god of any kind as I was lying on the hospital bed with my vision blackening. All strength to you and I hope that you are here for many years to come.

Very glad you are still with us Mitts. Once the docs OK it, less time on the PC, and more time with the gentle exercise.

We can rarely see things from the point of view of another person because we look at the facts through the screen of an impression or an interest which distorts our view; and then there are accusations, quarrels and misunderstanding.

Everyone has to play. The game goes on forever - or until you win. You win by finding death before it finds you.
There is only one thing in your life YOU can be sure of. That one thing is this moment, now. The last moment has gone forever The next moment has not come.
There is only one truth. It is being where you are. And where you are is where your body is.
The moment is your only duty. Your duty at any time in your life is to do what you have to do from moment to moment. :hugs: :hugs:
