Tangerine Dream wrote:Demis Roussos, the Greek pop and rock singer who became an unlikely international star in the 1970s and 80s, famed for his soaring, high-pitched voice, and voluminous kaftans, has died aged 69.

The bearded singer starteed his career in the pioneering Greek progressive rock band Aphrodite’s Child alongside another future star, Vangelis, who later composed the film scores for Chariots of Fire and Blade Runner.

Otto Carius, second highest-scoring tank ace of all time, passed away on 24th January, aged 92. Known for his book Tigers in the Mud, describing his experiences as a Tiger tank commander during WW2. One of the few people who prolonged his life by smoking. While advancing on Soviet lines standing in the commander's hatch of his tank, he wanted a smoke. Just as he bent down inside the tank to ask one in the crew to light his cigarette, a Soviet anti-tank gun fired, ripping off the commander's cupola and only slightly injuring Carius. After the war, he studied pharmacy and ran the "Tiger Apotheke" in his home town until his retirement in 2011. He also became a character in a Japanese manga comic (!).

Nope, why would I? From "Tiger in the Mud"

"The shell cut the right part of the commander’s cupola. I was not beheaded because I had bent down to light my cigarette. Suddenly the Russian assault gun appeared and I gave an order to the gunner to open fire. Kramer shot, and a second shell, from another assault gun, hit in the turret. I can not remember which way I left the Tiger. The head phones-the only thing I have from my destroyed Tiger".

Muath Safi Yousef Al-Kasasbeh
(May 29, 1988 – January 3, 2015)
Jordanian pilot. The plane he was piloting, a Lockheed Martin F-16, crashed after mechanical problems on December 24, 2014 though ISIL claims it shot the aircraft down. He was captured by ISIL terrorists near Raqqa Syria. He is threatened with execution but there are negotiations to release him. However, in bad faith, the terrorist decapitated his co-prisoner, a Japanese journalist. There is widespread coverage internationally about this pilot. Pictures published on ISIS's official al Furqan media site apparently show him being burned alive while confined in a cage.
