'Bout time. Referendum to be held May 25th.

No campaign with the scare tactics already.

What strange bedfellows they keep with the people behind the Brexit leave campaign.

On the one hand, the fact that Ireland voted for SSM gives me hope.
On other side, seeing how long this battle has been going on for, I'm worried.

I think there have been enough horror stories about the malignant effect of the 8th over the years to ensure that a short campaign of disinformation will be insufficient to change peoples mind.

Like with the SSM referendum, I know people living abroad coming home just to vote.

Elaborate.

Edit: read 'insufficient' as 'sufficient'.

The No campaign's devastating argument. Talk smack about the English and then make Irish people question if we want to be like them.

If you start calling it a baby before it's born.

It's not clear on my photo, but there's a light, black 'n' white photo of a baby in the background. All born and in little baby clothes. Sleeping peacefully.

It's probably not meant to be clear, it's likely meant to be subliminal, devious bastards.

The Yes side is out in force. They have far more people on the ground and seem better organised.

1 in 5 babies is aborted. I fail to see why that's a bad thing, except possibly as a damning indictment of sex and relationship education.

Is the proposed limit for on demand abortions really 6 months? Or is it going to be 24 weeks or some other number?

This is all to be decided, but I doubt it will be six months, unless there's an exception for fatal foetal anomalies, as in some countries. Most of the No side is taking a look at what happens in other countries, selecting extremes, and representing them as the norm, and asking if people want that here.

I think it will likely. I don't think fear-mongering works like it did 35 years sgo when the 8th was proposed and passed referendum. Nor does The Church hold sway any more. I notice the latter are very queit right now. A repeat of their silence on the SSM referendum, it's like they suspect a hostile people will do the opposite out of spite. Also, inevitably, someone's gonna point out the obvious with regards their track record on protecting children and humiliate them.

That and polls suggest a Yes win.
