Religion FAIL... again

Is the Iranian cleric right? On April 16th senior Iranian cleric Hojatoleslam Kazem Sedighi suggested women who wear revealing clothing are to blame for earthquakes. “Women who do not dress modestly…lead young men astray, corrupt their chastity and spread adultery in society, which increases (consequently) earthquakes,” he was quoted as saying by Iranian media.

Boobwash! say tens of thousands of women who refuse to believe flaunting their breasts is triggering a world-wide Boobageddon. Led by Purdue University student Jen McCreight they staged a 24-hour protest Monday.

Dubbed Boobquake, McCreight encouraged women around the world to flaunt their breasts and their cleavage to prove the Iranian clerics wrong. She even came up with some cleavage-flaunting T-shirts that she was selling for charity with messages that read: “Boobquake 2010: Who says science has to be boring?” and “Boobquake 2010: Did the Earth move for you?”

But the truth is on any given day there is seismic activity. Did Boobquake have any effect on the earth? Apparently not.

The linked pdf on quake frequency is impressive. He must be able to type with his eyes shut if he was focused on boobgate at the time! I bet the ayatollahs can't be so objective. Oh, I forget - they think with their minds shut all the time, don't they?

Cut me some slack man a hoax just fucked up my whole reputation. I'm not saying that women's rights aren't disregarded in Iran because I don't really know if it is or not, nor I know about half a mile away from my home (that is my school), but there's something I know, if Iranian women want to show their cleavages and hairs, there's nothing stopping them except themselves.

I don't think 'Iran' featured anywhere in the 'to be attacked' list. It was more like a fight against bigotry and irrationality. So stop taking this as a slur against your nation.

In all seriouslness, Aurlito, if you really contend that it is a misperception that Iranian women are compelled, by law or societal pressures, to observe certain dress codes, then by all means state your case.

Something loose must be worn to cover the body in order to avoid exposure to men who are not mahram.[45][46][47][48][49][50]

The ordinary headscarf is called rusari روسري in Persian. A type of head covering common among students and government employees is the maghnaeh مغنعه. The maghnae is a "wimple-like head covering", black in color, that is "usually required on college campuses and at other public institutions" in Iran.[51]
