I think there are a fair amount of nerves from people actually.

Nervous excitement for some, and just plain nerves for others.

'Tis a very big event and the Organising Committee have done an incredible job. I know some of those behind-the-scenes are barely sleeping at the moment.

All we have to do is turn up and enjoy :drunk:

Durro's a Ludite!! No use for a mobile phone. . .hang on, just let me catch my breath! :ill: /apoplexy!

Ludite ? But I've got one of these new fancy electric computers and it's even got a coffee cup holder built into it - it pops out of the side when you press the coffee button. Still can't find the "any" key that the manuals keep referring to though...

 I KNOW! Hence compounding my shock & disbelief. They must have you chained to the leg of the machine that goes ping, just to get you to do a day's work. Still, if you can't find the "any" key, you'd be crap with a mobile phone. Admit it, you only ever made one call a month because you couldn't unlock the keypad, right!?

Did we ever settle on a time and place for catching up before registering on Friday?

A bunch of us are supposed to be catching up for lunch on Friday, though I've forgotten where and I've lost everyone's phone numbers and stuff...

Gee. Thanks for helping. :what:

/smartarsery

We had a number of suggestions on the old board, and a few people exchanged mobile numbers in PMs, but I don't recall ever settling on a location. There are a squillion places around there, and I can't recall any of them.

How about meeting at the Conference centre just before or at 1pm ? Starr and I are flying in and should be checking in to our hotel about 12:30, where we're meeting up with Praxis. Once we've got things stowed away, it's only a short walk to the conference centre and we can decide on somewhere to eat from there.

I'm the short guy with a shaved head and will be wearing army pattern shorts and a maroon shirt (Queenslander!). I'll be accompanied by a 5ft 9" fairy princess and a 5ft 0" little ray of sunshine.

Here I am now.

Yes, and at only 5' nothing, I can't tell you how much I appreciate you trimming those nostril hairs Durro ...

(actually, I have decided to wear high heels for most of the weekend  )

Goldenmane PM me your mobile number and I'll send you mine so we can all rendezvous. You too Xrayzed.

Not that it's strictly atheistic, but are any attendees interested in a back-of-house tour of Melbourne Museum's palaeontology collections?

I've tried emailing PZ and Richard if they were interested, but I guess it got lost in the mountain of emails they get (at least that's my consolation to being ignored :waah: )

I won't be able to make it to lunch as I'm booked on an 11.30am flight from Sydney. I figure allowing for delays, hotel booking, etc that I won't be in the vicinity until around 2.00. Maybe I can join you lot for a coffee.

I'll PM Praxis with my mobile number.

I believe that Sean and Suz, the Witticisms (and their little half-wit) will be joining us for lunch on Friday. I'll contact him to confirm.

DB hates mob phones, so much that I let my pre-paid lapse. Now I have to get another fookin' sim card today, and I will post my new number here and at the AFA forum. I am flying in on Thursday night [8pm] and staying at the City YHA on Flinders Street near the corner with Spencer, which is the street that the Southern Cross railway station is on.

I will be at the convention center 1PM Friday. I am quite short [5' 4"], in my fifties, have white hair, and am much rounder than I would care to admit. I will wear a crocaduck T-shirt [grey background]. JimC, Praxis and Riddlemethis will probably recognize me from my previous manifestation in Mel-bun town.

I texted Sean, and he and Suz are confirmed. They're meeting me at the hotel around 12:30 and then we'll stroll in style to the convention centre to meet up with everyone else.

Our little band advancing towards the convention centre will comprise of a short, balding monobrow guy, giant fairy princess, little ray of sunshine, professional tennis player looking dude and his somewhat pregnant wife glowing radiantly.

Dang, how did I miss this thread, my eye-sight must be devolving.

Grr, I should have booked the Friday & Saturday nights after all. Thought I had baby sitting duties, but now my parents happen to be in town, so I could have fobbed it off on them  .

Anyway, I'd love to catch up with some familiar avatars here - how are we going to be recognisable? Forum Avatar name tags?

I could make it to lunch on the Friday (not that I'm gatecrashing or anything; am I? ).

Uh - totally?

Time is going to be an issue. I don't know how much free time there will be. I suspect not much.

Thank you very much for the offer. Extremely kind.
