I'm a lefty who has no love for the far-right Israeli government or that nation's historical illegal occupation and control of Palestinian lands seized in 1967, but the state isn't the people and it certainly doesn't represent all Jewish people globally, and I can see that a middle of the road conservative like Biden is a better option than the alternative. Despite the right's regular, playing-the-victim tirades against the "woke" or "radical far left extremists" etc the left have no power in the US and no-one in mainstream politics represents the views of the left - so US lefties always have to either compromise at the ballot box or just stay home. Isn't keeping Trump out motivation enough to vote Biden for any reasonably minded American atm, lefty or otherwise?

I'm talking about the self-styled "dirtbag left" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dirtbag_left and the pro-Palestinian/anti-Israel left.

There's probably more of them than you think.

They really, really, hate Israel, and they really, really hate Democrats/liberals. Lately, some have taken to calling Biden "Genocide Joe", and some say they will refuse to vote for Biden because he hasn't called for a ceasefire.

There's so many reasons lefties might be, shall we say, reluctant to vote for Biden, but in a two horse race is getting Trump because you can't vote for Biden a win?

No, it's a massive loss. I know that was a rhetorical question. I see the motivation in not voting for Democrats because they keep not doing much for the left, but unfortunately now is not the time that a protest vote will help bring positive change. To put it lightly.

Do you think the kind of people who cheer for Hamas killing 1400 Israelis won't happily watch the Great Satan go down in flames?

Biden's in a no win situation here. He can't even take a neutral path. Most everyone are expecting a side to be taken.

I don't see Biden worrying much about loosing votes he probably couldn't count on anyway.

It only takes a small number of votes to swing an election. Have you seen Biden v. Trump poll numbers lately?

polls on people who are dumb enough to answer questions on politics to a caller they don’t know.

the polls are good, last thing we need is people not showing up because they think Biden has it in the bag anyways.

Mike Johnson’s America: Revisit landmark SCOTUS decisions and use government to ‘restrain evil’
https://www.cnn.com/2023/11/21/politics/mike-johnson-kfile-invs
Still, CNN’s review of more than 100 of Johnson’s interviews, speeches and public commentary spanning his decades-long career as a lawmaker and attorney paints a picture of his governing ideals: Imprisoning doctors who perform abortions after six weeks; the Ten Commandments prominently displayed in public buildings; an elimination of anti-hate-crime laws; Bible study in public schools.

From endorsing hard labor prison sentences for abortion providers to supporting the criminalization of gay sex, his staunchly conservative rhetoric is rooted in an era of “biblical morality,” that he says was washed away with the counterculture in the 1960s.

“One of the primary purposes of the law in civil government is to restrain evil,” Johnson said on one radio show in 2010. “We have to acknowledge collectively that man is inherently evil and needs to be restrained.”

His vision has been well received as a congressman in his deeply conservative district in western Louisiana. But his surprising rise to the speakership has brought his particularly subtle brand of fire-and-brimstone to second in line to the presidency — delivering him a national platform from which to shape and influence laws.

"... elimination of anti-hate-crime laws..." At last, we'd be free to hate Mike Johnson without restraint.

Commander Johnson looks like he just stepped out the pages of "The Handmaid's Tale".

Come to that, he sounds and thinks like he came straight from Gilead. Is he a real person or a character from Margaret Atwood's nightmare somehow brought to life?
