Byron wrote:Wings Over Scotland and John Curtice have noted the same: however dire the national polls, most remaining Lab seats are safe; and the Lib Dems can threaten the Tories in scores of constituencies. This could easily backfire.

It could almost be assured if Labour refrained (in the national interest) from standing in Lib/Con marginals. But I suspect they have neither the brains nor the balls.

Yup, a progressive alliance is the only viable way to beat the Tories, but political tribalism's apparently too entrenched. Even if everyone else were up for it, far too many in Labour still believe they've a divine right to the loyalty of anyone who's not a Tory, and view the very concept of other progressive parties as a betrayal.

Paul Mason on newsnight suggested labour voters should tactically vote, as should libs etc, to stop the Tories. Then he immediately added this would probably get him thrown out of Labour.

And he's probably right, it likely will.

It's against the rules to advocate voting for someone other than the Labour candidate, where there is a Labour candidate.

An ill-advised rule at present, that could be easily changed.

My local Tory MP will be stepping down, according to the BBC. After finally winning an election legitimately i.e. getting over 50%, he decides to step down. I wonder what nutcake will be replacing him? We've got an unusually large number of religious nutters in this area.

I coincidentally got one of these today, it's a fold-out jobbie, with not a word to say about the election other than why SNPBAD and how, apparently (Ruth says so it must be true), I don't WANT another referendum on independence. Oh really?

I'm sure this is the same one I got, it's been chucked of course  but as others have mentioned, it doesn't actually refer to either of the 2 elections, the one in may or the one in june. Just "NO2INDYREF" (WATP!!)

Consistency's so good, ain't it, Buffalo Ruth:-
Pressed what she would advise whoever is the next Prime Minster if and when Ms Sturgeon demands another referendum, Ms Davidson said that the request should not be refused.

She said: "I have never said it should be denied, I didn't say it the last time either."

"I'm no Tory, hen!" Yes, R.C., you really, really are.

We've got the then Home Secretary who oversaw the alleged 'loss' of the file concerning a paedophile ring that included some Parliamentarians, and was quite probably known about and covered up by Margaret Thatcher, was later elected unopposed to be leader of the Nasty Party & PM. In addition, the matter of possible impending prosecutions of Tory MPs for alleged electoral fraud, with the potential for the Tories to lose their Parliamentary majority, which has now been short-circuited by the calling of an early election (stupidly agreed to by Labour et al.), should be of some concern for anyone who values issues of fairness and justice. A disregard for justice and democracy seem to be hallmarks of our current Prime Minister, and I want to know why the media aren't making far more of a fuss about it.

I thought I'd take a look at who would be replacing my local Tory MP, and found this:

Aldershot Conservatives threaten revolt over CCHQ's refusal to offer them Hannan as a candidate.

Democracy! [/sarcasm]

Oh lovely.

The Tories have issued a statement to the effect that they would be willing to launch a first nuclear strike.

If this is an attempt on Theresa "Succubus" May's part to show she has bigger balls than the North Koreans, it's dangerous to a frightening, and epic, extent.
