Unless you're a vegetarian I don't see any grounds to complain with seeming hypocritical.

That issue is addressed in the last post of the linked thread fal. I didn't know we boiled prawns alive (eh?) and mussels/clams don't have brains so...

That's because of apathy however. Very different.

They don't have brains so...what? So they don't feel pain? That's a leap you don't have the evidence to make.

I agree; and identified it as being a tenuous deduction when I posted it. Dunno.

And that's 'Torturous'. Tortuous means overly complex.

Lobsters are crustaceans with fewer nerve endings than mammals and have a higher degree of resistance to pain. Crabs can lose a limb in combat and feel no pain at all. So in that respect frying a lobster alive in boiling hot water is not comparable
to frying a dog alive. Crustaceans have exoskeletons that protect them from the environment while mammals only have fur Also humans keep mammals as pets and have an emotional connection with them. I am not saying frying lobsters is morally justifiable rather that comparing them to frying dogs is logically inconsistent which makes for a very poor argument indeed

I didn't compare lobsters with dogs. I am saying that we do questionable things too. Some people here also enjoy shooting birds out of the sky, and would still be killing foxes for enjoyment if they were allowed. They didn't even eat them.

I eat oysters while they're still alive.

Can't imagine hurting a goggie, though.

Attitudes to animals can vary quite significantly according to the specific culture. Over here we have animals that we love and animals that we eat and such demarcations are supposed to be entirely separate. But why should eating a dog [ which
we dont ] be far worse in principle than say eating a pig [ which we do ] Since were you a Jew or a Muslim you could never
eat pork. We regularly eat beef but to Hindus cows are sacred. And we think absolutely nothing of killing spiders or flies or wasps or cockroaches but to a Jainist no animal should ever be killed

As this is a moral issue and morality is not objective there are no right or wrong answers with regard to what animals can be killed and / or eaten. Disgust is not an argument just an emotion. My own subjective view is that killing an animal is morally justifiable as long as the reason for it is self defence or to eat it or stop it from spreading disease. And also that it is done as humanely as possible so as to keep suffering to an absolute minimum

Wether it's a dog or a pig shouldn't matter, I'd eat dog as soon as pork. But causing suffering is bad wherever it happens. We need ethical standards in animal husbandry and slaughterhouses too.

I don't see any difference between eating a dog and eating a pig. Don't get me wrong - the treatment of dogs at the Yulin Dog Festival is grotesque and shameful and worthy or criticism. The way we treat swine is just kept behind closed doors though. I'm not convinced we're much better.

I've had to go vegan and I don't have words for how much I hate it. I can't justify the treatment of the animals whose products and meat I eat though not can I justify the environmental impact of large-scale livestock farming. I'm all over meat and animal products if I know exactly how they were sourced and consider it ethical and environmentally sound. That happens virtually never though.
