So, how about those shaders, eh? I took a couple of screenshots and made postcards of my wee survival town. Apologies in advance for the pack-ice in the water. It's a result of me playing around with biomes and ending up with a chunk of taiga on the water front.

Just tried out the AMPLIFIED world setting...fucking amazing. Just amazing, it is what I have wanted a world spawn to be for ages, but they are right it does take a bit more beast to get it running. Totally worth it though, all the steep cliffs and tall peaks...just beautiful.

Putting in long distance railcart lines is a pretty cool way to travel, but I can't find enough gold to make enough powered rail sections.

Woo hoo. Got my first mob spawner XP farm. I was hoping to find a skeleton one because they're more useful due to being able to make bonemeal from bones.

Always. It still sells something like 40,000 new copies a day. Don't ask where I got that number, I don't remember.

I came across a tutorial on Chunk Mining for diamonds. Only one diamond vein will spawn per chunk. This means, obviously, if you find diamonds there won't be anymore in that chunk. Saves lots of time.

Chunks are easy to define. They're a 16x16 block. The x and z coordinates for the edges are divisible by 16. This makes it easy to locate each chunk. You branch mine a chunk on level 10. If you find diamonds then yeh! move to to the next chunk. If not you dig down to level 6 and repeat. Apparently this method gives an 80% chance of finding the diamonds in each chunk if lava, dirt, gravel or a cave hasn't replaced the diamonds in that chunk.

I currently have 4 diamonds (I had almost 30 before I went nuts and made all my armour out of diamonds and made a few pick axes) and 19 blocks of diamond ore (one of my pickaxes has silk touch). Each of those diamond ore blocks can contain up to 4 diamonds. Before this I was only finding a few diamonds a day.

The torches you see on the ground are marking the corners of each chunk.

Agreed. I would if I had a way of keeping it open most of the time, but as is it would be running on my backup laptop and last maybe two hours at a time. Fucker overheats like a mother fucker.

I have one on which my brother sometime joins me but I don't know how comfortable I am giving out my IP address to the entire world lol. It's just on this computer. It also means I don't run it all the time and it'd be crappy slow when I'm downloading things, which I do all the time.

One of these days I do plan on getting a fucking wicked sexy gtx780/titan desktop it could run on at almost all times, but that's likely a year and some months away.

I rent a small server for me and my son to play on. Since we play from different locations and I don't like having a home server open to the public. It's not too expensive and easy to maintain.

Renting a basic minecraft server is pretty cheep. I had a public server at one time for $15 USD a month.

Yeah I'm doing the same. I share the expenses for renting a server with a friend, it's running 3 minecraft servers, a webpage and a teamspeak server.

Haven't played at all for the last 4-5 months actually, I'm starting to feel the creative urge creeping up on me.

I'm new to the game. I'm currently working on a HUMONGOUS KICK ASS castle at the moment on sandbox mode in Vanilla. I've Christened it Everwatch, in reference to the massive central tower. Work on it for an hour or so every couple of nights. Actually a really good way of winding down... :)

No pics yet, as I've still got lots to do. I keep getting distracted by more interesting tasks such as working on my viaducts (I've got one delivering water and one delivering lava) or the harbor when I should be working on the outer walls.

Anyone got any good recommendations for mods? Also, are there cheats? I'd like to be able to spawn waterfalls...
