I agree with pretty much all of that.

It is absolutely flabbergasting that
perhaps a third – of Americans look at what he does, listen to what he says, and then think

‘Yeah, he seems like my kind of guy’

This is what is most disturbing about Trump, and other symptoms of the slide backwards towards nasty populist right wing politics in some countries in recent years (yes Brexit - I'm looking at you too).

It shows us that a significant percentage of the general population are much worse than we would like to believe, and I suspect the only thing that keeps them in the background is that until people like this surface, they think politics is boring and a lot of them don't have any interest in voting or voicing their opinions in public.

So, perhaps one solution is to keep politics as boring as possible. Otherwise you have to go to all the trouble of rousing decent people to action, to outnumber the frothy of mouth and dim of wit.

Indeed, I'd only quibble about the beginning. I don't think it's merely a case of pointing out his flaws to belittle him, it's more like "Holy fuck this guy is in serious mental decline and he's the fucking POTUS?!"
I mean, there's only the minor matters of a virus, middle east tensions, Ukraine, climate change to name a few. On his best day he'd be out of his depth and he's way beyond that.

Just watched 'Real Time' with Bill Maher. He and his guests actually commented on military intervention to oust Trump.

Speaking of the virus;

Officials debate what to tell Trump about the coronavirus outbreak

It was against this backdrop that the Washington Post had an interesting report over the weekend:

Although the United States has so far effectively contained the virus, some senior administration officials said there have been tensions within the administration over what information the president should receive, his posture toward China and what message to send to the American public.

All of this is obviously of great importance from a public-health perspective, but I was struck by the reporting that there's some behind-the-scenes disagreement between administration officials over what they want Trump to know about the emergency. I never worked in the Obama White House, but from what I gather, his team never quarreled over "what information the president should receive" when dealing with the Ebola threat in 2014, for example.

The Post's article went on to note that the president's perspective on the coronavirus outbreak has apparently been shaped in large part by Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar, who has reportedly told physicians "not to get too far into the details of the virus and the outbreak with Trump."

That's kinda what it looks like. No putting that cat in the bag now, though. The parasites know they can win by riling up the drooling idiots who spend their time eating spaghetti with butter ketchup, going to Walmart and watching reality TV, so that's what they'll keep on doing. Our media can't help themselves from feeding into it cuz ratings. The only real solution is making people better informed, getting real information out over the noise. Unfortunately that takes lots of time and effort, and being willfully stupid is something of a national pastime.

I guess it's no mystery that Donald Trump can't be talked to like an adult.

Trump and Obama.
It all started at the correspondents dinner.

Republicans are fucking evil. And yes I mean it in the supernatural sense. I mean, what, other than demonic possession, can explain Republicans?

Made me proud to be their grandkid.

Did they vote to put him in office? I would reserve my pride.

At the end of the day, we vote for presidents and prime ministers who WILL dictate. Otherwise, what's the point?

If your grandparents had said they cannot in good faith vote for someone who has proved himself to be a complete tosser, there'd be more reason to be proud.

If Churchill hadn't been so sure of himself Germany would probably have won WW2. A sobering thought.

We don't vote for the PM though - we vote for political parties. Even in the US they vote for party delegates who then vote on who should be president.

Neither has a mandate to dictate.

Trump's not sure of himself though, he vacillates between one position and another depending on who spoke to him last.
Recently he claimed to be a champion of law reform but soon after declared that non-violent drug dealers should be executed.
