I didn't go to Bournemouth beach, I'm just airing my views on the matter. I went to the zoo, which was also busy to the extent that social distancing was sometimes difficult (but not as bad as Bournemouth beach!), but after paying a significant sum to get in and having travelled nearly an hour to get there, there was no chance I was going to about-turn.

I'm just defending individuals and families here, whom as a group seem to be being castigated for going to places that the government itself now allows them to go to. It's not their responsibility to either predict nor manage the numbers game. The government should not be allowing us to go to beaches and zoos and wherever unless there are systems in place to prohibit events such as last Thursday from happening.

Holy crap that's a big crowd! that's going to leave a mark. :(

Were those beaches busy like that in similar weather before Covid?

It's not that simple. It's not as though Bournemouth has parking facilities overlooking the beach for half a million people where you can survey the beach before deciding to pay the significant parking fee for a day. Indeed, any parking spaces close to the beach would have been snapped up by the earliest customers when the beach was relatively quiet. For most people planning a day out there parking would have been a significant distance from the beach. Having paid a significant amount for parking, not least the cost of the 'gas' and the time travelling there, they too would have just got on with it and enjoyed their day the best they could.

Good question. Certainly never on a Thursday before!

Lots of people are soooo bored after being stuck in their houses for months with nothing to do. Even though some things are just beginning to open up, many adults are still not working and most kids are still not going to school.

That a hot sunny beach in Bournemouth was NOT going to be packed like that with all of those 'ingredients', is a preposterous notion. The government itself should be ashamed for blaming its citizens for what happened on Thursday!!!!!

I've never had much faith in government, but if they cannot figure out that popular beaches are going to get packed in the summer, then sack the fucking lot of 'em.

I can't believe what I heard come out of the mouths of several utter drooling fucking fundies speaking out against masks in Palm Beach county. So much freedumb on display it actually hurt my brain, one particularly encephalitic young woman blurted out every conspiracy going around bar anti-vaxx horseshit.
People are right when they say tRump is a symptom, does anyone have a plan to resolve this pandemic of wilful ignorance?

I meant the zoo. You could have asked for your money back. But sure, join the other sheep you always complain about.

What an unrealistic response. You think - assuming that I give a fuck - that I should seek out the manager of the zoo, who probably isn't going to be there on a Sunday, and complain that in MY subjective opinion of the day the zoo is overcrowded and I want my money back? Is there any other way to call a clown a clown? :nono:

To be honest I have controversial views about covid-19 which I've expressed elsewhere to the point that I'd rather have several million people die of the virus than potentially billions via a global economical catastrophe. However, my point here was ONLY to express my outrage about individuals/families being blamed for events happening such as crowded beaches by their own fucktard governments.

There's an obvious disconnect in your thinking, or else you're leaving out part of your argument. Isn't it obvious that your government (which apparently can't handle coming out of lockdown) is in place by the consent of the governed. If your government is not instituted by the consent of the governed, I implore you to explain what the conspiracy is. Let's make this plain: If it is a fucktard government (your words), it's either in place by the consent of the governed or is instituted by a minority that doesn't give a fuck about you and your zoo-trip. Try to keep your eye on the ball, James.

Who's supposed to manage that? Crowds of stupid people at zoos and beaches? I don't care how strong is their desire to have some fun. It's true, life is short and we should eat dessert first.

I'm sure that many of them wouldn't have bothered with hindsight, so many of them and us have learnt a valuable lesson from the event.

What.

jamest wrote:What kind of dickhead government doesn't expect hordes of people to 'legally' go to the beaches in hot sunny weather after being imprisoned in their homes for 3 months? It's fucking ridiculous to blame individuals for this.

What.

jamest wrote:We took our chances and went to the zoo last Sunday. That place was busy too but that's not my fault.

Ah.

jamest wrote: If the government doesn't want crowds of people going to the zoo, then don't open the fucking zoos.

Ahhh, I see.

jamest wrote:It's up to the powers-that-be to manage the numbers game, not us. Blame Bournemouth council, anyone, but don't blame individuals and their families for what happened on Thursday.

okay so it's not the individuals exercising their personal choice to go and get infected that are to blame, and it can't be the government/council because you said previously there shouldn't be a lockdown and people should go out. Who is this "anyone" you therefore want to blame?

What.

Yesterday in Scotland there were 0 deaths, the first time on a weekday that's happened. There have been a few days in June with 0 deaths but always weekend numbers where the reporting delay meant it wasnt accurate. Recent days there were less than 10 new cases, yesterday back up to 17, and only 17 people in total in Scotland in Intensive Care.

We also had a min-Bournemouth though, with lots of Glasgow kids gathering at Kelvingrove Park but the Police went in and apparently moved them on and closed the park. If we can get through this next few weeks and keep this progress going ... it terrifies me we could lose all this progress if people start going mad.

And everything is basically still closed here, reopening - slowly -starts monday :shifty:

When the zoos and fenced parks opened here, for the first few weeks, you could only enter there by making a reservation in advance and the number of available reservations was limited.

The photo is slightly misleading, by using a telephoto lens the beach appears more crowded than it actually was, although it was still very full.
People were also parking illegally (nearly 1000 parking tickets issued) as the £35 fine felt cheap for a day's parking close to the beach.
We live a short walk away from the beach and felt trapped through the traffic levels an number of people around.
There are also videos of crowds arriving by train not socially distanced and not wearing masks.
