Absolutely no alternative to a deity has been presented.

Full stop.

You think otherwise?

You are fooling yourselves.

it doesn't mean you have to consider yourself a sinner and start repenting...Just stop promoting NIHILISTIC atheism.

So what caused god, again? I didn't quite catch your answer there little buddy...

Andrew4Handel wrote:Absolutely no alternative to a deity has been presented.

Well apart from the fact that alternatives have been presented, why do you assume that if nobody did know of any alternative there isn't one?

Do we really need to explain a false dichotomy to you, or are you just taking the piss?

You are not concerned with what caused the universe and reality why the heck would you be concerned with what caused God?????

Hypocritical concern alert!!

You don't like religion 'cause you want to wank without guilt. I appreciate that. 100%..

But you are promoting death as an irrevocable end.

Calm down and try to think for a moment.

You said everything has a cause, as if you know. I simply asked what the cause of God is.

Why can't you answer?

What a funny thing to say!

Is that what's on your mind?? Are you concerned about your guilty feelings, Andrew, or are you guilt-free but just frustrated?

Who mentioned the big bang?

I'm agreeing with you. You've convinced me... you're absolutely right.

Everything must have a cause, as you say.

So what was the cause of God?

How the F**ck am I supposed to know the cause of god? Why don't you ask him?

The cause of God is absolutely NO LESS problematic than the cause of the universe they are equal problems EQUAL!!!

Who is this directed at? Who is promoting nihilistic atheism?
I'm not sure where you're going with this but even if there were absolutely no objections to your OP it just seems like you are (angrily) advancing an argument for deism - correct?

That is kinda the whole point in Cookie's rejoinder - identifying god as a supposed origin of the universe answers no question, it simply begins an infinitely regressive loop of non-answers.

But you said there is no other explanation for the cause of the universe except for God, therefore it must be god.

Now you're saying you have no explanation AT ALL for the cause of God... so therefore he mustn't exist!

Well done, you've just disproved god according to your own argument.

You're a genius!

Andrew,

Two quick things: first, I understand--as a former believer--your consternation about someone's promotion of non-belief in terms of "death as an irrevocable end", but surely you realize that the desirability of a thing has little to do with its reality.

Secondly, since you are willing to include concerns of desirability, faith promotes Death as merely a threshold to something better. This is a problem. Our world seems unceasingly poised on the brink of mutually assured destruction because vast swathes of human beings think that the Creator of the Universe writes books.

Re: No Alternative to God

There is no alternative to god:

Argument from incredulity with bits of argument from complexity (teleological argument) thrown in for good measure.

When a person is arguing from incredulity,he is saying "I'm too ignorant, too lacking in imagination or too stupid to think of anything else, there God/aliens did it"

Argument from complexity is the basis of intelligent design doctrine. (it is NOT a scientific theory)t which has been thoroughly debunked over centuries.

Due to a personal shortcoming, I don't suffer fools. Therefore, I have nothing further to say to what's-his- name. (I've forgotten already)

Well, there is that little extra step in there which would need explaining.

God -> Universe -> Us

vs.

Universe -> Us

I'm actually a bit flabbergasted by how a philosophy major who is finish(ing/ed) a degree makes so many glaring logical fallacies one after the other. Isn't logic usually a pretty big component in philosophy programs?

Andrew4Handel wrote:The alternative to god/s is nothing.

There is no alternative explanation for the existence of reality.

Noone has presented a genuine alternative except ignorance.

Given that the sum of the energy in universe is probably zero, then nothing is probably the correct answer. Plenty of science to help support this.
