Yeah, the article looks like it could be read either way. Reading at as 500k+ mail in votes and 500k more votes being cast today, doesn't look good for Utah's voter turnout. It would be less than the 2012 election.

I would hope more people get out to vote today in Utah than just another 500k.

It surprises me that mail-ins are that common, but with lineups at the polling station being what they are, I guess it shouldn't.

Utah's been emphasizing mail-in ballots. Clearly the acceptance level isn't where they want it yet. I like the idea. It gives people a chance to see the whole ballot prior to voting day so they can look up candidates and issues they may not be familiar with. Done right, I think it's a recipe for more informed voting.

Everyone who poo-poos announcing results before the polls have closed is going to love this article:

HAGATNA, Guam — Hillary Clinton has overwhelmingly won the vote on the tiny U.S. island of Guam.

The territory, located west of the international date line, is 15 hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time and bills itself as “Where America’s Day Begins.”

That's fucking weird. Why even hold the Presidential election there if they have no Electoral College representation?

Are you seriously suggesting 8 votes from a population of 300 million is indicative of anything? That's a sample size so small even psychologists would be aghast!

I never said it was indicative of anything. That wasn't even remotely suggested in my post.

Is your irony meter broken for FFS???

.... :nono: :coffee:

I guess it is because I don't see the irony.

Maybe you mean sarcasm?

This whole "ahh it's only a few votes. I only have one vote. I can't change anything. My vote means nothing" business is why people don't go out and vote and why people are so complacent.

I don't find anything to poke fun at or eye roll over about rural communities with low populations voting and having their votes counted.

Meh, I thought the eye roll was self-deprecating at the idea that posting this was giving evidence of Clinton "surging ahead". I think you're reading way too much into it.

HE'S the one who said she's surging ahead. That article is actually about Trump leading after midnight voting, I didn't read any where saying she surged ahead.

He's poking fun at the low number of votes.

Maybe I am really reading too much into it but I dislike people acting as if a small number of votes means nothing.

They've got media representation- a chance for their territory to be first to express its opinion. Given how little we allow them in terms of self-determination (we've gone totally British Empire on their sorry arses), I suspect they take what they get.

Irony is a state of affairs or an event that seems deliberately contrary to what one expects and is often amusing as a result.

......"surging ahead" on 4 votes versus 2 given all the hype around the election over the last 768 days.
Two votes is hardly a "surge" is it?

Yes you are reading way too much into it.

Markets and dollars are all over the map.....

The U.S. dollar sank and stocks plummeted in market mayhem on Wednesday as investors faced the real possibility of a shock win by Republican Donald Trump that could upend the global political order.

European stock futures fell sharply on Wednesday and were poised for their worst day since the Brexit vote in the United Kingdom. Futures for the Euro STOXX 50 fell 4.2 per cent, and futures for the STOXX 600 were down 4.1 per cent. Futures for the FTSE, DAX and CAC were down 3.3-3.9 per cent lower.

Sovereign bonds, the Japanese yen and gold surged while the Mexican peso went into near free-fall in chaotic trading.

"Markets are reacting as though the four horsemen of the apocalypse just rode out of Trump Tower," said Sean Callow, a foreign exchange strategist at Westpac in Sydney. "Or at least three of them — it might be four when the prospect of a clean sweep of Congress sinks in."

The S&P futures slid five per cent and hit a limit down, meaning the contract could not trade lower, only sideways or up. Dow Industrials futures briefly fell 800 points.

"It's kind of a shock-and-awe type response," said Brian Jacobsen, chief portfolio strategist at Wells Fargo Funds Management in Menomonee Falls, Wisc.

Well his going scrap NAFTA and TTP. You can forget TTIP. 45% tax on goods from China.

The next recession is around the corner. The rich will get richer. Obama care will scrapped. Abortion laws repealed.

Do the idiots in America realise what they have done? A second genie is out of the bottle. First Brexit now Trump.
