I saw that.
Are you suggesting that being knifed by Gove would gain support for Boris ?

Doesn't it show Boris has poor judgement lacks leadership skills?
Why do you think that?

With the benefit of hindsight, May was always going to win. Had Gove not stood and thrown his full weight behind Johnson instead, the best possible outcome for the latter would have been to find himself in the same situation that Leadsom did. I.e. being pressured into standing down for the good of the party before it came to a members vote.

Of course, if Johnson had actually had a plan for leaving the EU that couldn't be written down on the back of a postage stamp, he might have posed a more credible challenge. But it's not as if anyone else has managed to crack that particular conundrum yet.

OK. You put it as a question so I read you as questioning the point rather than stating it as the case.

Didn't take Theresa May to return to Palapatine mode, did it?

May tries to use Finsbury attack to justify Internet snooping

Theresa May has said the Finsbury Park mosque attack justifies her plan to impose a raft of regulations on the internet.

The Prime Minister was speaking outside 10 Downing Street after a white van ploughed into Muslim worshippers following prayers at the north London mosque, leaving one dead and 10 injured.

"This Government will act to stamp out extremist and hateful ideology, both across society and on the internet," she said.

It was the latest in a series of statements from Ms May that suggest she believes recent attacks have strengthened the case for her widely-criticised plans to regulate the online world.

Those plans include launching a massive crackdown on internet security so messages on apps such as WhatsApp can be accessed more easily by authorities, and censorship of what can be published online.

The PM also said she would ensure "that police and security services have the powers they need".

That is likely to include online measures — including forcing internet companies to make it easier for everyone to read private messages, and to remove extremist content or be hit with large fines.

As she entered Downing Street after the election, Ms May indicated she would look to implement those plans for internet regulation as soon as she could.

The Conservatives' hope for increased internet regulation was a central part of the party's election manifesto, and the party's leader has committed to pushing that through despite failing to win a majority.

So she's blatantly milking another tragic incident, in order to push through her totalitarian agenda. But once again, we know that this is merely a smokescreen for the real purpose of this legislation she's so obsessively determined to ram through, regardless of its internal consistency or efficacy. The real purpose of this legislation, is to keep track of those not singing from the Tory hymn sheet, so that they can be dealt with at leisure.

Oh, and whilst Grenfell Tower residents were being threatened with being labelled "intentionally homeless" if they objected to being booted out of London altogether by the Tory council's social cleansing operation (one of whom was forced to move to Preston, 240 miles north, to be temporarily rehoused), the succubus spent a large part of her diary schmoozing with Tory Party financial donors at the Savoy Hotel, where tables were £5,000 a pop.

Theresa May was schmoozing multi-millionaire Tory donors at the Savoy while Grenfell Tower residents faced homelessness and talks with the DUP stalled, HuffPost UK can reveal.

The Prime Minister spent 50 minutes hobnobbing with Conservative backers at the lavish London hotel on Tuesday, despite aides insisting she was too “busy” for other engagements.

...

May was accused of a lack of “humanity” after she dodged survivors of the Grenfell Tower blaze during a swift 15-minute tour of the site in the immediate aftermath.

But at the Savoy event - where tables cost up to £5,000 - the Prime Minister posed for selfies and a bottle of champagne was raffled to raise funds.

Ian Lavery, chairman of the Labour Party, hit out at May’s decision to attend the event, adding: “At a time when the country is facing some of the most difficult and challenging times in recent memory, it speaks volumes of the Prime Minister that her priority was to spend time raising money for the Tories.

“One day before the Queen’s Speech and in the midst of the Brexit negotiations, Theresa May should be focused on providing the leadership this country so badly needs, not wining and dining big Tory donors so that she can refill her party’s election coffers.

“This is yet another example of the appalling lack of judgement and tact she has shown over recent days. The British people deserve a government that will stand up for the many; what they’ve got is a Prime Minister and government that always stands up for the few.”

Trouble being, of course, that you can't rely on the Tories being that stupid forever. They may be venal, corrupt, devoid of human empathy and blinkered by greed, but when it comes to the matter of seizing and holding power, they learn very quickly when they've fucked up.

Meanwhile, it appears some Australian comedians have given us this ...

As one commentator elsewhere stated, you know you've fucked up big time, if you're on the receiving end of a skit from a country that had Tony Abbott as prime minister ...

So Tories give DUP a 1 billion bung today in exchange for queens speech support. Brilliant.

What about the Barnett Formula, Scotland and Wales cry. (and England, to be fair)

Well, no, that kicks in when additional is spent in England, and proportionately the devolved administrations get more as well. See, this 1billion is just a bung, for electoral support. There's no Barnett for Bungs. No Corruption Barnett.

So that's all fine. Isn't it?

Heh,

I guess she found that £1 Billion down the back of the magic sofa then.

1 billion = 109 = 106 x 103

Or £1k each to 1 million nurses.

There are
285,173 qualified nursing staff and health visitors
*

So that's more than £1500 extra to every nurse in the NHS for the next 2 years - and they earn a fucking living unlike the tossers in the DUP.

The odd thing about the billion pounds is that it's such a round number. It's like there's been no need to justify and calculate how much is a reasonable sum of extra investment for NI, and no attempt to negotiate a more reasonable amount by the Tories. It's like the DUP said "We want a billion pounds" as their opening demand, and May is so desperate for their support she just got out the cheque book.

Edit: I take that back, I've read somewhere else that it's more than one billion pounds.
[Disclaimer - if this is comes across like I think I know what I'm talking about, I want to make it clear that I don't. I'm just trying to get my thoughts down]

Yes, I feel sure the fact it's not a round number lifts all suspicion

There was a bizarre interview with some Tory on Channel 4 news earlier, trying to defend the billion pound bung. He tried to claim it was to help with this, to fund that, and the other. All quite normal, what's the problem?

Staggering.

Good question. Maybe a change in policy, rather than the equivalent of a couple of brown paper bags stuffed with cash?

Although to be fair, I don't fancy any of the changes in policy they wanted either.
