Yes this is the Firaxis game, I have been keeping an eye on it for a good 6 months or so and it seems to be shaping up to a rather good game. I enjoy the old X-Coms even though I suck at them, I do find them a bit clunky and a bit over the top on the bullshit factor (that being when I stand up and yell BULLSHIT at my screen and walk off in a sulk) and what I have seen of this seems to have streamlined some of that. I am sure it wont please everyone, I know a few retro gamers who already hate it because it got rid of TU, to them that is dumbing it down to me it is streamlining a complicated and pointless system.

At least it isn't the FPS version that was first floating around. That one seemed to be breaking canon left and right as well as looking a bit crud.

This game is looking better and better every time I see it. Will be pre-ordering it on Steam sometime very soon. Hopefully enough people do to get the third unlock level, that being a free copy of Civ 5.

I don't thus why I want a nice free copy of it. Anyone who has it would be able to gift it like Steam does whenever it gives out free games and the person already owns it. Rank one is already unlocked, that is some customisation things for units and a old school unit, rank 2 is close to being unlocked that is some TF2 looking units and a vanity pin for units. Nothing overly great but I was going to pre-order anyway so extra free stuff is nice.

More gameplay footage (a full hour's worth of it in fact) in the original thread.

Damn! I was meant to post in that original thread. Didn't even notice this was a different one. Requesting merge.

It's looking awesome!

Tbh, it's really not my usual type of game.

I don't have any interest in games that revolve around shooting guns, and I am not into tactical squad based combat.

But the fact that this is 'fantasy', and you're not shooting at people, and that there's a RPG element to the squad just makes it look like a perfect combination of the kind of thing I like from games: expanding capabilities.

Not enough people are writing words about this... c'mon people, write more words. I want to read words!

Actually, any more gameplay videos would also be appreciated. I hear of most games from coming here to be honest! :D

Edit: Ooh demo's up on steam.

XCOM was an awesome turn based tactical game. Can't wait till the new version comes out.

Well, the demo is really short, but the game appears like it's gonna be epic.

This is horrifying.

The game doesn't work on XP! :(

My poor computer's going to need an upgrade!

Yeah, I feel like I'm using a stegosaurus powered computer now!

Still perfectly happy with XP and not impressed that they've made this game not support XP for no real reason whatsoever - it's not DX10 or 11 - it's in DX9

Looks like a lot of shit must be done for me to get playing this game, and I don't really have any time spare to do it! :(

Guess I'll get Windows 7 and make a partition just for it and other future games - this probably marks the beginning of the end for XP, but I'm going to use it until it I absolutely have to change.

I am pre-ordering...I hate that word so much...on Steam today. I will spend the next two weeks and three days slowly going insane until I can have it. Did the same thing with Dead Island and Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Steam really likes making me insane.
