For over a month Steam was telling me that it would unlock at 5pm this Thursday. Yesterday it changed to 9am on Friday.

Publishers need to realise it's the 21st century and has been for a while. People today have the internet. In fact, many games, this one included, require an internet connection to play even single player, so it makes no sense to make us wait until physical copies are available in brick and mortar stores before allowing the game to unlock on the internet.

I know, I know, the B and Ms hold the publishers to ransom by claiming that if they allow an early unlock for internet purchases then they won't sell their games in the stores......... but bullshit. That's cutting off their nose to spite their face.

Not that it seems XCOM is being promoted in any Australian store I've seen. EB is covered in posters for Black Ops 2 and the like and the XCOM box promoting XCOM is on the bottom shelf.

This sounds like movie studios who still think that the internet is a fad and won't sell their stuff online.

I fully agree about the release, I can't stand staggered release dates. If the game is ready for sale on the 9th in the USA give it to the whole world on the 9th at least with digital download. Holding it back 3 days isn't making them any more money.

How many people will download it between the 9th and the 12th just because they don't want to wait until the 12th and don't want the game spoiled for them on forums? I imagine quite a few lost sales.

However, they're scared of brick and mortar stores which is another reason why games on Steam for Australians cost about twice as much because just like release dates the B and Ms claim that they won't stock games which are sold on Steam for less than they are sold in EB, etc in Australia.

Where the fuck is this parliamentary inquiry we were promised into this?

I would rather if the brick and mortar stores just stopped gouging the shit out of us, 90 bucks for a brand new game that in the US costs 60. Someone is making a ton of profit.

Also Steam isn't also the same price as EB and the like, I got Dead Island for 60 and it was selling for 80 in the store. That was pre-order as well. It depends on the publisher I think, if you want a real mind fuck look up the Call of Duty series on Steam. Black Ops costs the same as a brand new game, with the DLC as well you will be paying 150 or so dollars. You can get Borderlands 2 and the Season Pass for all the DLC for less then that. Madness.

Some times Steam forgets to change the price for non US customers and so sometimes if you're quick you can buy a game in say Australia for the US price. When they realise though they quickly bump the price through the roof.

And yet EB, etc still sells the game.

For any one who bought it on Steam the Pre-Load option should be available now, I plan on setting it to download tonight.

XCOM goes for 49.99 euro on Steam, in local shop 799kč~32 euro.

Release dates do not make any sense to anyone except marketing experts. If it takes 3 days to ship (is it the reason we are being discriminated?), then hold sales in the US for 3 days and release worldwide at the same time. What the fuck is the problem? But you know what we, customers, should do? Do not buy into this shit, torrent the game, and write them email .. See, stupid fuckers? .. boycott this practice. But since we wont, we will wait and buy their products anyway, why should they care? They have no reason. They will get their money and that is what matters to them.

XCOM is released in the US in just a few hours it seems. The rest of the world has 2 days, 23 hours and 30 minutes to go.

It would be kinda ironic if we get another Dead Island moment here.

For those who don't know Dead Island was released in the US before the rest of the world but sadly someone had made a mistake and the version that people downloaded was a pre-release beta that still had some game testing options turned on. It was horribly broken but the dev team rushed to fix it, they also wanted to fix it without making people redownload the entire game which they pulled off by deploying a patch that fixed the game to release standards. I had a jolly good laugh as I waited the couple of days till it was playable for me then got to play a wonderful game without that issue.

Indeed mine is downloaded and only waiting the last few bits so that I can play it...which you know people in the US already have and no doubt are on a few sites already. But I would rather just wait, it isn't going to kill me.

On a side note I was rather impressed with Civ 5, I am really liking playing it and am even enjoying the MP which I had heard bad things about. So two games for the price of one so well worth it.

Not sure if this is an oversight or I'm just plain stupid, but I don't see ANY way of saving and exiting this game.

Okay. This is retarded. I couldn't find shit, in game or on forums, on how to save and quit the fucking game so I just alt tabbed and closed close the program from the task bar. Of course it didn't save shit so I have to start over again.

What the ever loving fuck?!

Thanks Spearthrower,

I know for a fact that I mashed the hell out of my ESC key the first time around. For some reason it did not bring up the main menu.

Of course now it works once you suggested it. It's my computer. It's conspiring to make me look like an idiot. Image

One thing bothered me in the demo, and hopefully I have not figured it out .. it is on Unreal engine ok, but why it is not possible to rotate camera but just to switch between, 4, views? I want my own angles damn it! So my question is: Can I have them?

---
edit: Just reading FB page of the local shop I pre-ordered the game from. They have it, and they have Dishonored too. So please, someone be so merciful and explain to my feeble mind why I could not get it today nor can tomorrow? I beg you for rational explanation else I will forever live in misery of an unsolved puzzle. Surely the marketing experts know something I do not and I am dying to know what it is. Thank you in advance.
